I have a Dell Ultrasharp 23" that is almost ten years old and it's still going strong - back then it was one of the few IPS panels available so there was a price premium but I've gone through a few other monitors that have died while the Ultrasharp has held strong

So agree - Ultrasharp is good and the question is whether the premium for having USB-C power delivery built in is worth the additional price and also whether the reviews say anything about those Macbook issues

I have an LG 27UK850 monitor with USB-C PD/DisplayPort Alt Mode and it works great with my MBP. It's about 3 years old and cost me AU$850 but has been a worthy investment, especially seeing as I have been WFH full time now for 17 months.

It's not a thunderbolt display, so there is a slight limitation that over USB-C, the USB-A ports on the back of the monitor step down to USB2.0 speeds, so you are limited if you want, say, Gigabit ethernet plugged in there. I have a Logitech Brio and Jabra Pro USB-DECT headset plugged into the ports on the screen and just the single USB-C cable from the screen to the laptop which powers the MBP, 4K screen on the LG and the USB peripherals beautifully.

Definitely recommend a USB-C monitor

Edit: This is my setup. Reasonably clean

Before the MBP I used to have (in my last job) an EliteBook X360 1030 and that worked just as well, as does my personal Lenovo Yoga - all over the single USB-C

A small update to my home office. My new M1 iMac has arrived and set up. I still have to fix the spaghetti wiring under the desk.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

It's nice to see one in a "normal person's setup"...as opposed to the usual marketing-style photos.

Gives it a bit of context, so I can imagine how it would look in my own office setup at home.

I like the blue.

@Handsomedan It's great. I like the smaller screen (previous 27") I can see the screen content with scanning over the screen. I think that will reduce eye fatigue.

Not a priority for me on this device it's primarily a productivity device. I am awaiting delivery of a TV for my office to watch any HDR content.

LG have released a new 32" OLED screen.

LG Ultrafine

Their 48" C1 has been really popular for gaming, crushes any LCD for contrast, motion & HDR experience. Obviously the size has been a problem for many... as the new ones seem more desktop focused it will be interesting to see if LG have been able to address the burn in problem of OLED.

Looks like the LG may also be a USB-C dock effectively, with that USB-C PD delivering 90w and the USB ports on the back.  I'd be keen if it wasn't for the price tag :-(

USD. Which is about double what I paid for my 48" C1!

They need to get out of town with that nonsense.

My LG 27UK850 works like this (tho I think only 60W). Simplifies things a lot to not have to worry about a seperate dock
