Looking at Oz pricing, i still feel we are paying a bit too much for these cards

When you get to my age, Cougar's are not appealing.

Sadly it seems that this is the story of this launch worldwide. A bunch of reports from the US stating that even major retailers (Microcenter, bestbuy etc) had queus of 80-100 people with the stores only carrying 8-12 cards TOTAL - FE and AIBs. Apparently Nvidias page never actually showed a buy link and went from "Notify Me" to "Out of Stock" instantly

Seems like a paper launch.
If I end up receiving my card I'll be stoked. But as it stands I'm half expecting to have my order cancelled by Computer Lounge at this stage

Sure does

The major overseas sites are saying that the big suppliers went instantly out of stock. If I were a betting man, I'd put money on Nvidia having made hundreds of cards rather than thousands, let alone tens of thousands.

IMHO they really had to 'launch' the RTX 30xx cards before the new Sony & Microsoft gaming consoles come on the market, otherwise they'd be in real danger of missing the marketing bus in a big way.

Nope. Reports are that they had reasonably similar stock to the rtx20xx launch.

One report I watched talked about a US system builder selling 900 systems with 3080s in 15 minutes. It's been a year of supply challenges for the whole industry and demand is crazy.

Keep in mind you "expect" to pay about 10% higher prices here to account for 5% weaker NZ dollar and 5% extra GST.  PB seems to be "about" the same as most Aussie retailers which are mostly also over priced when you run the numbers.

There is ONE Aussie standout retailer however,  don't seem to have "much" ANZ tax (aka Aus / NZ rip off prices).

$1139 is Nvidia AUS MSRP launch price,  and an EVGA and a Zotac are purchasable at that price, but no where else I have seen.

https://www.ple.com.au/Search/RTX%203080

They have however now stopped issueing ETA's,  and from what I can tell are selling EVGA GPU's like hotcakes.

Please educate me.

I was checking out the 3080's on the pbtech website -- and, the different brands/models have different pricing ... But, it is really hard to see a tangible difference between a $1400 card and a $1700 card.

eg,

$1469

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/VGAAS33082/ASUS-TUF-Geforce-RTX-3080-10GB-GDDR6X-PCIE-40-Trip

And...

$1748

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/VGAGBV33083/Gigabyte-Geforce-RTX-3080-AORUS-Graphics-Card-10GB

What are the main differences between the cheaper 3080's and the more expensive 3080's?

Ordered one about 8am this morning, wasn't too fussed on model. $1449.

Supposed to dispatch 24th sept.

Ordered from?

PB Tech. Gigabyte Eagle model. Wasnt too fussed. Couldnt justify spending $100-$150 more to get a few more MHz. I wont really be seeing it much anyway its in my case.

The Eagle got a fairly good review on Overclockers in the UK. Hoping this means the Gaming OC will be a decent model as well.

Computer lounge email stating that everyone is now in a queue based on their orders. Getting weekly shipments and will fulfil ASAP.

Was interested to see the TUF is getting generally good reviews.

Runs cooler than the FE and looks nice and basic, with minimal RGB Christmas tree lights.

This was quite interesting. Seems the board partners had very little time, but stocks for the launch were the same as last time. Difference seems to be demand is way higher and the the 30 series has been much better received.

That was the same video I watched. Gamers Nexus are very outspoken when they perceive something that is anti-consuner so I trust them more than most youtubers.

The Gigabyte Gaming OC already has a decent review, but yea they are over priced at PB by about $100 (on top of ANZ inflated prices), the gap between the Eagle and Gaming  OC is not justified. The card itself looks like a very

solid choice.

The 3090 benchmarks are leaked, about 8-10% improvement in gaming over the 3080. If current NZ 3080 pricing is of any indication maybe it's better for potential 3090 buyers to wait until the 3080 20GB comes out.

Does it use the GDDR6X or the ordinary ram? Apparently its a bit more expensive to produce.
