What's everyone's experience with some of the navigation apps for Windows Phone?

I've got a Lumia 1520 and was using Nokia Drive + over the weekend and wasn't too impressed with the results. I was traveling from south Waikato to the Coromandel and it seemed to be pretty set on going via Paeroa. Total drive time it said was 3:48 mins but I ignored it and went our normal way which it accepted and reduced the time by over 20mins and near the same number of kms. Changing the settings didn't seem to make any difference to the route it wanted to take.

Then on the way back we were going to Hamilton and it was insistent on going up to Bombay before coming back down SH1. Seems a really long way to get there.

I'm used to TomTom on iPhone which gives pretty good routes so this was a bit of a shock. Are any of the other apps available any better. A bit hesitant to pay $60 or so for the same sort of result.

Ive used it on my 520 with no major issues as such.... just the odd glitch where the voice will say turn right, but the screen shows to go straight ahead - both were correct, I could go either way but was a little off putting to be given both options at once ;)

I have used Nokia drive a bit on a couple of devices and had no real issues with it.
Your description sounds quite unusual. Had nothing like that at all.

I've used drive on both windows phone 7, windows phone 8, and in the windows phone 8.1 beta (drive is available for free on HTC and others in 8.1) in both NZ and Australia and I've been happy with the results and routes.  Works best when you use it in 'online' mode, but you can run completely off the offline maps if you need to.  was especially good in Aus when I wanted to get routes that bypassed toll roads.

Good to know. Hopefully just a one off result. I'll keep on trying it for now and see if the results gets any better. I tried a few different products on iPhone and only TomTom seemed to give my odd routes which were faster so possibly I was just a little spoilt in the past.

I'm sure it won't have it out the middle of nowhere but does anyone know whether the traffic features work in the main centres and how good it is?

Copilot GPS is meant to be pretty good on WP8, however the free version missing a few features (turn by turn nav, voice announcements etc).

I bought the Ativ S and bought GPS Voice Navigation. It seems pretty good. Gives you the option of google maps, bing maps and mapquest, seems really good so far. Was not too expensive either.
