Can anyone from Microsoft confirm if Cortana will be available in this country any time soon. I want to try it once I get my phone on Xmas day, but don't want to have to keep switching regions back and forward in the phone.

nathan: Not before Xmas!

Didn't mean by Xmas, but sometime in the next couple of months or so. NZ tends to be forgotten about when it comes to things like this from Microsoft.
Even advertising for the new phones, haven't seen any on TV, but have seen Huawei and of course Apple.

We need Bing working fully in NZ for Cortana to function as you want.

Its been worked on. I cant disclose the dates sorry, but we know how important this is.

And more important in 2015 with Windows 10 launching

TV ads are expensive, very expensive. We've had Telecom and JB/Harvey ads advertising Lumia handsets on special previously this year and last.

Reassure away, but Bing NZ has stood absolutely still for years now. It's extremely hard to stay in the habit of using Bing based on nothing more than a hope of nirvana at some unclear future date.

I really need Cortana to remind me when to take the bins out.

Keep forgetting and the gf only reminds me once I am about to nod off at night.   =/

Help me Cortana... you are my only hope.

I have my phone set to US so that I can use Quiet Time, which requires Cortana. Cortana is pretty good at giving you local weather, but if you say "Cortana what's the current weather" you get the temperature in Fahrenheit. You have to say "Cortana what's the current weather in Celsius" - there is no C/F settings anywhere, and it assumes F because the handset is set to USA.

Also none of my incoming calls show a contact, I suspect because the phone is set to USA and the phone number format doesn't match, or something.

In other words, you can use Cortana here but with caveats such as the above. I still find myself reaching for the Google app for searches :(

I have Cortana and CallerID working fine on my 930 (and 1520 and 1020).
I have my language set to US, Country set to US (but regional format set to English NZ) and International Assist off - never had a problem.

@Freitasm - is your phone running an Australian firmware? I've found that to be the problem with CallerID working on a few different parallel imported phones - flashing it to NZ (or Malaysian, Cambodian - anything but Australian) seems to resolve it

Hmmm. Good point. It probably is. IIRC this was fixed in older versions.

Re the caller ID issue, this is something that is rectified when we build an NZ variant. Globally, very few countries use 9 digit phone numbers and as such the default in the OS in 10 digits, this is where the lack of caller ID working as expected occurs.

Hong Kong, Great Britain and NZ firmware will resolve this. Or save the number as both +64..... and 021.....

Im looking forward to trying out Cortana as well, I have 2 windows phones, and I really really really want Cortana, but when I have changed it to the US, still doesn't want to work for me.

change the language settings to English (United States)

Settings > Region "country/region" is  United States and "regional format" matches phone language

Does anyone have any info?
