Hey guys, I have yet another problem I need help with.
Here in this wonderful little town that I live in, my internet can download at a whopping five or sometimes even six kilobytes per second. When I try to update the firmware on my dear Nokia N95, Nokia Software Updater decides it can't download the 147.3 MB update.

I've tried searching for some way to download the files and install them via the Nokia PC Suite, but to no avail. The thing is, Firefox - in fact, almost any of the other programs that I've used to download things - are quite happy to download ridiculously-sized updates. I've even updated my firmware once before - it took about six hours - but the newer version of Nokia SW Updater doesn't want to wait.

No one I know around here has fast enough internet, so I'm kinda stuck with v21.0.016. By the way, the latest is v31.0.017 - I haven't updated since about a year ago.
I've considered going to a Nokia Care Centre, but I'm not sure if they would be able to help.
Any ideas?
Thanks :)

Oh and another thing -- this is a little off topic but it's too small to make a new one :) -- what's with Vodafone removing some of the settings and services in my phone? I can't actually think of any examples at the moment, but I've come across a few in my poking around the settings... I'll let you know if I do.
:)

What makes you think Vodafone is removing settings off your handset?

Vodafone has no reason to remove settings off your handset

My understanding is that Vodafone have their specific firmware versions for the NZ models, and they can add or remove certain services and things.

Um...

Just looking through my settings trying to remember.

Ah. Network mode is one: I can only choose between GSM and "Dual Mode" - no 3G setting. That's not a real big one though. Um.

Oh and I still don't have the option to choose whether the phone will enter 3.5G/HSDPA mode automatically or not.

There are some things, for example the "SIP Profile" settings, that say I may receive the settings in a message from my service provider - is there some way to do that?

This is very off topic D:

Sorry moderator dudes :)

You will need to take the phone into a Nokia Care Centre to have the firmware updated.

As far as I am aware, Vodafone, like all providers do disable certain features on these high-end phones. The reason for is simply because not all the features are supported by the networks.

I happen to have a n-95 that wasnt purchased through vodafone and I can tell you that the particular setting you mentioned above is normal. The "dual mode" just means that the phone will operate at 3G when in a 3G area and at other times just drop back to 2G

Ah yes, this is what I suspected.
I suppose I'll just have to go in next time I go down to Auckland.
Thanks for the help :)
