I gave Telecom $999 for a nice Yellow 920 last Thrusday and I'm still waiting for it to arrive. It appears they have had some stuff up with stock and then allocation. Needless to say it has been the worst retail experience I have ever had with any company.
Hope you do manage to bag the upgrade to the 920, it looks like a stunning device. Although I'm a little concerned by these apparent update delays...
nathan: there are some unique changes for NZ in the Portico ROM that will be rolling out over the air. So its Portico from Microsoft + some other stuff. That might explain a little more about how this update works and changing things etc
There are obviously ways of flashing it now yourself, search on Navifirm on the net, but honestly I recommend you wait, its not long now
You're feedback is heard, received, passed on. As I mentioned I'm in exactly the same boat as you with a personally purchased $999 black Nokia Lumia 920 with the Telecom NZ image on it, and I'm still waiting...

My black 920 (from telecom, bought on release day) bricked itself last night after a reset. I had problems with the Wallet not updating with an additional card that I loaded through the Microsoft Commerce site and Wallet was constantly crashing when trying to do anything. The phone was plugged in charging and I reset it from "Settings > About Phone > Reset". I left the phone to do it's thing and when I checked it this morning, 6 hours later, the gears were still turning. Took the phone off charge to take it to work with me and the phone was flat by the time that I got to work. Now when I try to turn the phone on, it's stuck at the Nokia screen. I've found the post on WPCentral where I can recover the phone with NaviFirm but...
If I load the TelecomNZ V1 firmware from NaviFirm, will I still receive "Portico from Microsoft + some other stuff OTA" or am I better off taking the phone into Telecom and getting the phone sent away for repair.

I can relate to this.
In my experience and that of my friends as well... the Riccarton Mall Telecom NZ store has been one of the worst stores we have ever had to deal with.
-Little / no stock
-Expensive & do not price match (RRP or nothing)
-Returns / refunds and fixes absolutely terrible.
My girlfriend had a LG Optimus 7Q with several obvious problems, still under warranty and the issues were related to the hardware.
Had to take the phone in numerous times, was charged for an extra battery which did not remedy the issue, and then swore at us when we wanted the refund in cash as opposed to deposit into the bank account.
Recently some friends had to go through a similar process composing of nothing but grief dealing with this store as well.
Telecom NZ Riccarton Mall store.... Avoid like the plague.

nathan: When you say freeze, do you mean the OS stops responding then restarts
can you reproduce it
is there a common thing you do that makes this happen

coddy: I can say my phone DOES NOT lock up / require reboots either with the original firmware or the portico firmware.
My phone DOES get hot if used a lot (20 mins on video Skype over 3g = very hot back top of the device).
My phone charges on the wireless charger overnight without dying.

It would seem pretty clear to me, that these freezes / locking / dying issues ARE hardware related, Nokia should fess up and replace the faulty units without fuss.
