All I expect is a connection, and the relevant information on how to connect. I see it as being analogous to my PC, and I don't get told what versions of OS / BIOS I need for that.
I agree here. Mobile operatators can only guard so much about the devices that connect to their network. If the device supports a standard method of connecting to a network and doesn't adversely affect the performance of the network in a manner different to a 'supported' device, then so be it.
Imagine if your ISP was like, well, you can only use Linksys routers. That we sold you. With our firmware.
And it's quite right, this is your hardware, you're free to do with it as you like. As long as you don't break any laws, or anything you wouldn't want to talk on Geekzone about:)

I've just flashed mine with the latest OMJ Custom Sprint ROM and are more than happy with the result. Faster downloads, better battery life, clearer calls, Windows Mobile 6.1, GPS... Why wouldn't you?
mattoktanz: I find my gps locks vary quite a bit and very rarely do I get 20sec locks :/
NEW ROM Released - Sprint have offically launched their new Touch rom which has an updated radio and some PPST settings that improve GPS fixes.
I'm going to flash the new rom and Reset before customizations - Who wants to be the guiena pig who lets the Sprint Customizations run ?

Hey Matt I took up the challange and let the customizations run. I had lost my HDR password anyway a while back so not much to lose. LOL
Things I have noticed so far
1) HDR Username was changed 2) MSL code has changed (will need to use putty etc to workout what it has changed too.) 3) Phone works fine. 4) Sms works fine. 5) Don't seem to be able to get data connection on x1 with usual username and password. Need to look into this more not sure why it is failing.
most interesting of all though is the a-gps seems to work! I am at work (in a basement) so haven't had a good chance to test it out. But when I start GPSViewer and start the gps it connects the data line very briefly (doesn't come back with error like when trying to connect 1x) after which GPSViewer shows the location of 10 plus satilites. I haven't got a lock yet being underground and in the middle of city so I will update later when I have had a chance to test better.
Telecom doesn't support A-Gps but it may be a default part of the cell towers.
OK. Just got my phone back, they reflashed it and I have my HRD UN/PWD back Yay! I don't know what they flashed because I have the same ESN and the same firmware I originally had (Almost OEM 6.1 v3) but my HDR UN/PWD were restored.
So it is $55 for a reflash but it is worth it to get your UN/PWD back.
Also tried Rev.A and wow it is fast! GPS with google maps also works like a dream!
1) How long did it take? Gave in on Monday, Picked up Friday. I've just re-read my repair doco, it says "This device has custom firmware on it and is not supported by Telecom so device has not been re-flashed" This is weird because i still have same ESN and stuff, same firmware the way i left it but my HDR Auth had been restored. Weird?
2) When you got device back it still had wm6.1 on it? So you did not need to reflash it to get GPS working etc It had dharvey4651's Custom ROM still on it which is the way i gave it to them. I didn't even try the GPS or internet when i got it back. The first thing i did after turning on was check the EPST menu and jumped for joy when i say my HDR UN/PWD (the guy in the store thought i was weird). Wrote the details down and re-flashed from 2.1 to 3.0 for dharvey's ROM straight away!
3) Where abouts did you take it in to get flashed eg Orb store etc I went to Leading Edge.
I've spoken to a few colleagues at work and one of them has had an idea on how the UN/PWD are generated so i'll get right back if it works

freitasm: The Sprint Mogul is equivalent to the HTC Titan. The TNZ Titan and OKTA Touch have different hardware and the OKTA does not have GPS built-in.

Mauricio, I have GPS on my OKTA Touch (as I am sure someone would have said by now). I get a GPS lock etc. So your statement is incorrect - The okta touch does have GPS hardware built in.

I just flashed from original rom to the "official" sprint rom, now everytime I try to connect to EVDO IOTA runs, reverting me back to sprint settings, how do I solve this?

You will probably need to reflash without letting customisations run.
