So to clarify,

If you buy this phone from telecom and put a vodafone sim in it. You will need to put a telecom sim back into the phone to update it?

How do these updates work then? You said they are carrier approved.

The phones are "registered" to an operator, independent of the SIM card being used. If you bought from a Telecom store, then it's a Telecom handset for all purposes, regardless of SIM.

Cool so then with the exception of 4G this phone will function flawlessly on Vodafone and receive all applicable updates :)

Yes as I say swings and round about. Depending if I get stung for more GST I might save $80 odd bucks.
