Grab a calendar and throw darts at it to determine a day, it will be about as accurate as anything you will be told on here unfortunately.
Only glimmer we have thus far is that the Ativ S on Sprint in the US is supposed to have it by the end of their summer. Even then, that is a slightly different phone and that timeframe is nearly up.

If you are not waiting for a firmware update to go with it like the nokia users are (me) you could do the developer preview program thing and have it today.

2 degrees for me. Do we need to petition them?
There are enough reports of the camera breaking with this phone on the developer preview that I don't want to risk it.

Oh dear, yeah We had to put some pressure on 2d to release gdr2 update but I dont even know if 8.1 has been released to any ativ s around the world?

Edit: after checking the wpcentral.com it would seem that even the unlocked variant does not have it, so hard to do much really until that changes,

Ps, well done crusaders, so close

Samsung have little to no investment in WP at the moment. The Ativ SE has not even got 8.1 yet and it was released in the last month or two. Apparently there is an ativ core coming which will release with it, but that is not confirmed yet and looks to be mid-low rather than high end. Still, even the lumia 920 doesn't have it yet, and that was the flagship at the same time as the Ativ S.
I think Samsung would rather can the update to 8.1 though if they can, I doubt they want to be putting resource into supporting a 2+ year old phone that they didn't sell many of.

Yeah looking at the list the 1020 and 920 HTC 8x don't have the update anywhere either so, at this stage just need to sit tight. I would say we will see the update but I wouldn't expect much more after 8.1 though.

Kind of hope that they roll 8.1 update 1 into it if it takes that long, but will just wait and see. At least if they do the update with the updated firmware, we should be able to use the dev preview with less/no issues.

yeah, i am hoping, fingerscrossed that, this is what they have in mind. Like the previous commentators If 8.1 is issued that will probably be the last of the updates for he Ativ S.

Now changed to please see your customer rep. Guessing it will be a long wait still. The 920 now has it, so it is just the carrier variants , the HTC phones and the Ativ S variants waiting on 8.1.

I also emailed Telecom back in June and received this:
----------------------------------------------------------------

I understand that you would like to know to when the new firmware will be released for your Samsung Ativ S.

At this time we do not have a confirmed time frame to release the update you mentioned although we are looking at end of August but cannot promise the actual time and day. Our product teams do evaluate software updates for mobiles on a continuous basis and we aim to make important updates available as soon as possible.

There is a lot of work involved in development and testing to ensure the software works optimally for Telecom users. For this reason critical updates are prioritised over non-critical updates and in some cases non-critical updates may not be released.

----------------------------------------------------------------

In my email I had asked both about GDR3 and 8.1 so I don't know which they are referring to (I would have thought both were software releases rather than firmware, but maybe the Ativ needs a firmware update too), but I'm assuming at this point that they will be skipping GDR3 and going straight to 8.1. I don't have a lot of faith in the timeline they gave me, but I thought I would share the info I have since others are also waiting patiently...

Hey Dave1234,

Great news!!! Would you happen to have the email address of who you contacted at telecom?

Maybe if enough people email and 'ask' they may 'up their game' on the update???

Cheers smile
