Hi Team,

I am wondering if spending $300-$500 on a new graphics card is worth it or should I finally bite the bullet and move across to the evil (but now vastly superior) Intel from my beloved AMD.

Current components

AMD Phenomenon II X4 (stock cooling not O.C)
2 x 8 GB G. Skill DDR3
MSI R5830 (software O.C)
Intel SSD 60GB (OS boot)
1TB WD black (everything else)
2 spare PCIe slots and 2 spare RAM slots

I am a massive Total War fan and with the new game Rome 2 coming out in September I am ideally wanting to optimize the rig for this...

Any questions comments concerns suggestions are very much appreciated..

Cheers

You'll notice more of an upgrade with a new GPU. The 5830 is pretty low end now.

The 7850 - 7870 or gtx 660 are really nice cards at a decent price.

Yeah around $300 it's Nvidia Geforce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon 7870, both great cards very similar performance.

Here's a general overview across different games, you an see they are pretty close

If you could bump it up to a 7950 they are a very good card

Depends it's he's running a monitor with 1920x1080 not much point, $300-$400 is the sweet spot.. more is overkill.

True I forget that. I'm running 1440p and have been looking at a new card. I had decided on 7950 or 670 if I decide to do a mini itx build
