MurrayM:

Does anyone playing Pokemon Go have a problem where the player's character will stop walking and is stuck in the one place, even though the real player may still be moving?

I'm also on Vodafone Smart Prime and have the same problem although not a often as you.

I go for an hour long walk most nights an it usually stops moving one or twice in that time.

@Murray

Well it's all fine for me on my Nexus 6P. I'd say it has something to do with your phone if I had to guess.

Yeah that was what I was thinking. I did a bit of Googling and couldn't find anyone else reporting similar problems. The phone only has 1GB of RAM, and PoGo says it needs 2GB, and I have noticed the game getting bogged down when I'm somewhere with a lot of activity.

Thanks for confirming. I guess it's just the phone then...

Wellington is such an awesome place for Pokemon Go!

I was there Tuesday-Friday for a course and spent the majority of my down time walking around the CBD/Waterfront areas filling my bag with many Pokemon, including quite a few new additions.
The variety compared to Dunedin CBD was outstanding and I just wish I had more time to get to some more parts of the City (like Oriental Bay) and out to other suburbs/cities.

(Plans next holiday)

I went up with only 80-90 candies from Magikarp captures locally, came back with 450ish

Just waiting for a stronger CP version before I do the evolution.

Yep, definitely do that. If you can't wait, just get your best one and Power him up, then do it. That's what I did.. got my best one up to 190 :D

Run some of your best CP ones through the Pokefind IV calculator, and then power up the one with the best IV percentage. I wish I'd known about it before I did half my evolutions, but I still managed to get a 100% perfect Flareon by sheer luck. At least now I know which ones to persist with powering up even further after they've evolved. You'll find that egg hatches tend to give you better IV than wild captures.

Latest update today.

Main new feature seems to be the Buddy option to take one of your favourites for a walk to add candy for that type.  Useful way to get the candy needed to evolve the harder to find ones.  Obviously you still need to have found one in the first place.

Next question will be how many candy you actually get for the distance.  Have noted 1km, 3km and 5km for different types.  (Magikarp, Bulbasaur, Dratini respectively).  Will see how many the 3km for the Bulbasaur gives me tomorrow hopefully.

That's going to need a *lot* of walking for the ones I need close to 100 candy for.

Lolol yeah it will. Thankfully, I only have 3 of the 2-evolve category left that I need to complete - Abra, Geodude & Machop

But Pikachu is definitely rarer than anything else I've found, hence why I'm using him.

Apparently you sometimes get 2 candies instead of just 1.

I sideloaded the APK to get the buddy system as soon as possible after constantly checking the App store.

So far I am walking my Exeggcute as I only need 3 more candies to evolve. After that it will be something like Slowpoke or Magnemite who are sitting around 13 candies to evolve.
Pikachu with 42 candies to evolve was tempting to have as my buddy .. I am sure I will get to him eventually.

According to some web research the 1, 3 or 5km buddy only gives you 1 candy per interval.  So for the ones that need 5km, they get you 1 candy after 5km.  Not a fast way to gain candy.

Apparently it's possible to get the buddy candy from Pokestops as well though.  Not sure if that's true or how common it is.
