Yeah the X (which I've got on pre-order) is a bit more capable and so while it may be at a disadvantage for storage it is the better unit overall.... I won't need one of these cards for quite some time; I'm going to get a USB3.2 based external SSD for general games and storage and then just transfer games across to the internal drive for Series X games that require it... I don't really have many games on the go, especially newer ones at full price.

Benoire: Remember these are gen 4 pci x4 ssds, the cheapest currently for 1tb is the gigabyte at 400 so this is damn good value and cheaper currently than the ps5 will be able to use

No they're not, they're pcie gen4.0x2 which is the same speed as gen3.0x4

No they're not, they're pcie gen4.0x2 which is the same speed as gen3.0x4

Well that's interesting, hadn't seen that clarified until now... Also interesting is that I cannot find a Gen4 x2 equivelnt on the market... Gen3 x4 will have the same bandwidth but is also cheaper as it uses more lanes to get to the speed from the memory... Gen4 x2 is going to be quite expensive in comparison.. Hopefully we'll see more expansion cards over time that reduce the price... although I'll most likely run a USB based SSD and play non series games off that and store series games not in use on it as it could take ~20 minutes to transfer a 100GB from the internal SSD to an external spinner!

I was in the same boat, was unsure I wanted to jump on the bandwagon but had a look this morning and I think release day orders were limited and no chance to getting one now. Only option is Noel Leeming for pre-Christmas pickup/delivery

Depends what you're after? if you're after the series s then noel leemings has plenty of launch day stock, But I think the series x is sold out every where for launch day stock.

Ouch, 200GB of the storage is used by the OS & System. So the Series S only has 300GB usable space...

Some of that will surely be reserved for the fast resume function too... but that's quite a bit removed... They really need to not include that in the storage sell; should have a seperate ssd for that!

Agreed on all points.

I guess they are trying to give a cheap "entry" into the console, and then nickle and dime people for more money on accessories later.

Does anyone know how easily the Xbox S and X are going to be to upgrade the internal drives? The PS4 is amazingly easy but the current gen S and X are awfully complicated.

I don't like external drives.

You likely won't, they've gone velocity architecture so the ssd must meet certain requirements around speed and latency and whether or not the replacement internals can do that I do not know... mainly using an external USB3.1 SSD will net you big beneifts for all games bar series X/S that require the internal hardware... and with an SSD you sohuld be able to move a 100GB game from the internal to external storage in about 3 minutes... I plan to do that unless someone shows how to upgrade the internal or the external 'card' becomes cheaper.

Probably also worth noting that the 1tb was likely unformatted size, like all manufacturers do.. the One X doesn't have 1TB availalbe, its lower... and I'd expect the PS5 to be even lower than the Series X as its drive is smaller to start with...
