I think the 2060 is a wierd card and not sure what it is for. I'd either look at a 1660ti and save some money for the same performance minus the ray tracing or go for the 2070 for extra performance.

2060 seems to be the sweet spot for 1440p in regards to bang for back currently, probs even better again at 1080p. A 1660ti is close enough to a 2060 you might as well just eek out the extra money and get the 2060 and get more frames again. The 2070 seems to be the odd-ball of this generation with it's price vs. performance.

EDIT: It's all a bit much of muchness really. They're both very good cards for the pricepoint and neither will disappoint.

Just buy a prebuilt to save warranty hassle if its your only PC, since otherwise you are expected to faultfind with spare parts and only take the faulty part back to the retailer.

Also are you happy with 60Hz or do you want decent framerate gaming?

just got a 144hz monitor so would like to make full use of that

So is that 1080p 144Hz or 1440p 144Hz?

I'd change a couple of things here.

No need for the AIO as the included AMD cooler is very decent, can be a bit loud when really pushing the overclocks but otherwise it is fine.

The money saved there I'd put into getting faster RAM which is going to make a huge difference for Ryzen PC.

Also there are many many ways to get Windows and paying full retail price is the least attractive IMO.

Personally I'd would go with Ryzen but the intel alternative just for gaming is going to be slightly quicker in most titles. It will have a worse upgrade path, won't multitask as well (so if you want to do streaming or any creative work) and I personally have problems with Intel's past business dealings in the past, but it is a viable alternative (unlike current AMD and nVidia where you'd be a mad man to buy anything but a budget GPU from AMD at the moment)....

I'd have to go with the stock AMD cooler on any Ryzen machine - I'm sitting at 4.9 and heavily overvolted and it keeps temps at an acceptable level. Same with the RAM. Anything over 3000MHz is recommended.

Personally I have a 2060 (it pretty much matches a 1070ti in performance, and has ray tracing which when playing games like Metro: Exodus makes a huuuuge difference).

Team Red/Green ftw!

Ryzen 5 2600, 16 or 32GB of G.SKILL Trident Z 3200MHz RAM (2933MHz+ is important for Ryzen), ASRock AB350 Pro4, and an EVGA PSU 550W+.

Don't get the AB350 with a Ryzen 5 2600 because the motherboard doesn't support it out of the box - you need a first gen ryzen to upgrade the bios to support it.

Get a AM4 motherboard that starts with a 4 like a B450

Quite true, although you'd hope that ASRock would start flashing EFIs that support second gen so you don't need two CPUs out the door

I dont believe the case comes with fans, so you should budget to get 3x120mm fans.

Id normally go for an asrock motherboard but couldnt find them in stock so the gigabyte looked like good value.

You could also consider getting a 1TB spinning disk but its something you can add later.

Hi all

Also looking to get a pre-built Gaming PC with a budget of about $2500 (excluding monitor).

I just wondered what the forum thinks in terms of online retailers; in terms of reliability and after-sales service. If it matters at all, I'm, based in Blenheim.

I've had a look at Mighty Apes 'Gorilla Rigs' which could meet my needs & budget. PB Tech also seems to have a decent reputation for online sales.

Any recommendations?

And whilst I don't mind asking for an upgrade or two with Memory, I definitely don't have the confidence/time/knowledge to do my own build.

If you're looking for "it just works", and you're aiming around $2500, I'd say https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/WKSGGPC50065/GGPC-Corsair-RX-5700-XT-Gaming-PC-AMD-Ryzen-7-3700 with a mouse and keyboard that suit your taste. It's all the newest parts, all AMD, and good bang for buck.

You could certainly put something together cheaper, but this thing falls out of the box, you plug in your screen, mouse, keyboard and speakers/headphones and you're off to the races.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

Get an extra HDD with it as well.... games these days will chew a 500GB like it was nothing ;) (Looking at his 70GB Forza install)

PB Tech are a little bit more difficult than some others, but you should be able to directly deal with GGPC anyway, and since you're buying it as a prebuilt it's much easier to say "Whole thing doesn't work, fix it".
