I have an Xbox One, mainly because I've had an xbox since the original. The original xbox was way ahead of the PS2 in terms of network multiplayer games. But, the consoles seem to be more and more similar with each generation.

These days I pretty much only play Destiny from Bungie, so could really have gone with either option...

Well, none of my friends have consoles and my family live in Los Angeles, Toronto, London and Manchester...! So I won't be popping round to share games any time soon. One of my brothers has an X Box 360 I think (the youngest one) and another had an original X Box but his wife probably long ago talked him out of that...

I don't know how much speed you need to play on line reasonably but as you can see we do not have a lot here and may end up with less if we move to Queenstown as we hope to do.

Sadly the place we are in contract to buy if we sell our house up here is shown as "Less than 5Mbps" on all the maps...!

In that case, for the purposes of this discussion don't buy the console that requires internet to work. My xbox 360 wouldn't work without internet. Ps3 is 100% fine without internet whatsoever.

Maybe get a ps3 slim if the ps4 and xbox one needs internet. Just don't get aps3 phat like mine. Useless.

Would 3 still play the new games written for 4 though?

I'm very much a blank slate - I have no buy in and I don't want to do anything with the system but play games on it, so all the Netflix etc etc is superfluous.

3 won't play 4 games and vice versa.
But what I'm saying is they still sell the 3.

Yes I hate having to do anything on my PS3 that involves the store, or anything like deleting big games etc. I have noticed a big slow down when the hard drive gets towards being full. But the PS3 was released in 2006, I got mine in 2007, it is an 8 year old console, I think it still does pretty well for the age, and still has some pretty good games (I still have a huge backlog of PS+ games to finish).

But personally I wouldn't look at the PS3 as an example of the PS4, the PS4 is heaps better than a PS3

The reality is that both the PS4 and Xbox One will do everything you want.

You really need to go down to a store and try both out, figure out which controller and operating system you prefer and go with that.

95% of games will come out for both consoles and given that you have no history with either brand, you have no real tie to any of the exclusive franchises.

Only the new ones for now.

Backwards compatibility for some games is coming later in the year.

Jeez 60Mbps pretty impressive. Can't get above 25 in Arrowtown.

I have xbox 360 and both Netflix and Hulu require gold subscription. Is it still the case on Xbox one? And are there any similar pre-requirenments on ps4 to run Netflix?

Just my 2 cents.

Since the PSone I had always had Playstation. Love the exclusive games. But with this generation I changed to Xbox because with two young daughters the kinect was an easy sell. In saying that the biggest difference for me has been the community. On Playstation playing Battlefield over a few years I only met a few people who I played with/against often. With xbox it has been great and I have a whole group of gamers I see often. Not sure if this is just because in NZ it's a minority console or what but that has just been my experience.

Cheers. And if money isn't too tight get both as Uncharted alone makes a PS4 worth it.

Both XBox & PS are crap platforms for noobsters. Since 1998 i've been a PC gamer.

PC gaming, or nothing for me.
