Thanks to another user, I was able to figure it out; the weird swoosh animation when encountering a Pokemon and the error when attempting to complete a reward were due to me having denied access to my camera/storage when Mew was released. As soon as I enabled access, turned on (then turned off) AR mode, the swoosh disapeared and I couple complete rewards without issues

Yes, one of our crew had the same experience today. I see they've removed the ability to delete items from the menu when accessed via the Pokemon's stats screen, after so many people accidentally trashed their rare candies.

LOL, I am already struggling to manage my list, and it's not even in triple digits. It desperately needs a filter and something to indicate if you've done your friendship interaction for the day. I keep getting propositioned by people I don't know on Silph Road who want New Zealand eggs. I've friended some of the people I talk to regularly on the Trainer Tips Patreon Discord server and as a result I have eggs from Montreal, Oslo, California, Ohio, New Hampshire, and Rosh Haayin in Israel. If I trade the Pokemon I hatch from those eggs with a locally-caught Pokemon, I'll get distance credit because the hatched Pokemon came from another country.

It's a shame the friendship tracking is broken. I've been working to make sure my son and sister get to "best friends" asap so we can do extra damage in raids, but our friendship meter is not progressing properly. Hopefully that'll retroactively fix itself.

I am enjoying the extra friendship bonus XP - I'm now on track to hit L40 a second time before Christmas. Popping a lucky egg on at raids where you know your friendships will level up gives you a whole extra pile of XP (3000 to go to "good friend" x 2 with the egg). I got 36,000 friend XP during two Regice raids yesterday. It's getting really easy to level up these days. The real in-game currency now is stardust. I made almost a million over the course of the water event, most of which I spent the other day. I caught a 100IV Tyranitar at a raid on Wednesday night and a 98IV weather-boosted Mewtwo on Thursday which both got powered to L35 along with a third Kyogre, my two Gardevoir, my Smack Down Tyranitars from Community Day, my fourth 98IV Machamp and my 100IV Latios. It felt so good to finally power them all up. I finished the event with about 150,000 more than I started with, after my spending spree. I don't intend to trade anything that costs a lot of stardust until I am best friends with someone.

So many people looking for New Zealand friends in order to trade Relicanth - however most of them seem to be unaware that being remote friends means that trading Pokemon is not achievable due to needing to be within 100m of said friend to activate trades.

However I have accepted quite a few randoms from around the world to my friends list, as I can use the hatched Alolan eggs to trade with friends who are actually local, in order to gain KM on the Pilot Badge

After playing with Friends for a few days, there are definitely some significant improvements needed - some sort of icon to show you have "leveled up" for the day, ability to sort friends, and a better way to see all friends rather than 10 per "screen" and it needing to load each screen ...

Yes, the drag-to-load in lots of 10 is so annoying - necessitated by the useless "last Pokemon caught" feed. I'd rather see a detailed report of "days until next friend level" or something.

Ideally, I think the friends screen should look like the gym badge screen, with the trainer icon (the one that pops up for friends notifications) instead of the gym badge, the hearts scale underneath, and the handshake icon in the top left corner that turns green when you've done your interaction for the day. You could also have a present icon in the top right corner that lights up when you have a gift to collect. That way you'd fit three people on a line and scrolling would be less arduous. It would also need a filter for friendship level, interaction date, pending gifts and distance.

I love this feature a lot, but the interface needs some work.

Tied up at work; thus my reply took approx 3 hours to "type and send" ...

I did not know there was an XP bonus for getting friends; guess too many posts on TSR to keep up with all the possible changes ..
I guess that could explain why I seemed to have gained so much XP over the weekend - I did approx 12 raids, some with a lucky egg on in order to waste my supply but I also made quite a few friends (1st star) ..

Your idea for the friendship screen to look like the gym screen is great ..
Those on screen notifications regarding friends also need to go - 5 minutes I had to wait this morning for the backlog of notifications to clear. We have a notification section under news - if I want to know what happened, I'll look there

Oh and my other irritation - only being able to open 20 gifts, and when you have a gift to open clicking on your face (bottom left of the screen), defaulting to your friends list.
I want to go to ME so I can go to my gyms and feed berries ...

Since the on screen notification that your defender needs a treat is currently broken - it used to let you go to the gym and now isn't

126 friends and counting, only 4 of whom I actually know! smile

They definitely need to improve the interface, it's slow and uninformative at the moment.

And what's with all the errors that keep popping up, eg "Failed to get friends list"?

You can turn the notifications off in settings - although I did toggle off the one that tells you how many things people received from your gift, and it didn't stop them from popping up!
