Our day was a bit disjointed. We got off to a slow start, had to stop for an EX raid (thankfully at the gym in our normal Community Day location) and then made pretty slow progress due to tired kids and adults. I think I ended up with 5 shinies - possibly my worst result. I got to hour #3 with only 2 caught but then snagged a high CP one that was 15/1/15 so I evolved it immediately, plus a couple of 91% standard ones that were in storage. We had to rush off at the end because of Sunday night dinner with my parents, so my son rerolled our high IVs as I drove and managed to get me a 96% which also got evolved. I got a good PVP specimen for the Great League as well. I think I now have enough Feraligatr to pad out a water team with my 3 best Kyogre if I ever need to. But chances are that CD Swampert will outclass them within the year.

Upon arriving at my parents' place for dinner, my son's eggs started hatching. He got a Riolu and a Chingling back-to-back. I hatched a load of rubbish, and one shiny B-grade Pineco.

I'm looking forward to Feebas day. I really like the concept and I hope that the shinies are not Pokestop-specific (like shiny sunglasses Squirtle was) because that would just mean driving to specific Pokestops to harvest them.

So we end the Hatchathon event, and go straight into the Hoenn event
New shinies, exclusive move from Breloom and new raid bosses including Kyogre and Groudon (please be shiny!)

They mention that 7km eggs will feature Hoenn Pokemon, so I'll stop getting those from gifts and just get whatever eggs I get from Pokestops for the event .. my only goal is to actually find a decent Shroomish to evolve into Breloom, so I hope he is either common or part of new research tasks

I have to say, it's a bigger event than I expected and I'm looking forward to it. I've topped up my eggs from gifts today in a last-gasp attempt to get Chingling, Mantyke or Riolu. After that, I'll go for Pokestop drops instead. I added it up and there are 26 shinies that can be either wild-caught or raided during the event (assuming Groudon is one of them). Maybe my son will finally get his shiny Swablu and me my shiny Wailmer. I've just checked what my best counters are for Kyogre and Groudon - turns out a lot has changed since we last encountered them. Pokebattler told me my 3rd best counter for Kyogre was a Jolteon, which I took to mean my electric team was a bit weak. I don't have a third Raikou I felt happy about pouring a load of dust and rare candy into, but I checked how my lone Electivire would stack up if I powered him up and he came in a very strong third place, so he got an extra 10 levels instead. Can't wait to try him out. My FP Venusaurs look like they'll see some action too. Keen to get some raids done - I've been buying the boxes with the super-cheap incubators and the premium passes are starting to stack up to silly proportions, lol.

Ok, there goes the plan to avoid 7km for the Hoenn event; confirmed that Absol, Mawile and Nincada can all hatch from 7km eggs obtained since 10am ..

I mean I know I won't manage to get them .. but have to give these things a go right..

Yeah, I saw that. Managed to get a Chingling from my final batch of Hatchathon eggs, and had to incubate a whole new batch, lol. Still looking for that darn Riolu. I'll take a shiny Absol or Mawhile, though. Still don't have any from raids.

How was the Feebas research event for everyone - I certainly wasn't a fan of 15 nice or 10 great throws and I ran into far too many hatch an egg task which I had to immediately discard as I was running 7km eggs via the normal incubator. Did manage to get 3 shinies from 51 research tasks, but still looking for a decent Feebas to have in storage after using the 98% a while back to get Milotic

I managed about 20 research tasks and found one shiny. I pretty much stuck to the catching tasks, although at one stage I was able to stack up 3 hatching tasks and then hatched an egg a few minutes later. Right after getting the shiny Feebas I caught a shiny Taillow and then hatched a Munchlax which I'd previously had no luck in getting. All in all I was very happy with the event!

I didn't enjoy the event at all. Mainly because I like playing with my friends and we soon ended up with different tasks to each other (which gave us conflicting goals) so we had to split up to complete them more quickly. I messed up and filled up my 7km eggs in the morning, so all the hatch tasks were out. And the catching tasks were annoying because you had to stop and complete them before moving past the next lot of stops. We also ran out of new Pokestops and had to take to the car, meaning I missed out on a lot of time while driving. I only managed 23 tasks with no shiny, but I did get a 100% as a consolation prize and a shiny Zigzagoon earlier in the day. My sister got 1 shiny and my son got 2, so I am relieved he didn't come away disappointed. I like the concept of research day, but they need to tweak the recipe a bit. Having a much wider range of less-complicated tasks would make them more enjoyable and help people playing in groups to stick together. Because there were so many tasks I had to throw out, I was worried about missing a single Pokestop in case it had a throwing task. That meant one very slow loop of Takapuna. If all the tasks were equally achievable, we could have kept moving and just done a couple of loops to make sure we mopped up any we missed on the first pass. Normally on Community Day we can do three loops because we never stop moving and we always have tasks to do.

Totally forgot as I was racing again. And was sitting between 3 stops for prizegiving, but it completely slipped my mind to even fire up the game.

A research event would be nice if it was a 24 hour period rather than the community day 3 hour window.

I think that's been the resounding takeaway from the weekend - either shorter tasks or longer time limit. It looks like Feebas is back in 10km eggs (if it wasn't previously) and can hatch as shiny. Hopefully it retains its Feebas Day shiny rate. I believe Aerodactyl and Pineco have higher shiny rates than other things. I hatched a shiny Pineco last Community Day, actually. Speaking of CD - when will we find out the next one? Surely it has to be soon.

EDIT: February Community Day is Swinub, and by using a Sinnoh Stone we can evolve to get Mamoswine with an exclusive moveset
There are additional ways to get Sinnoh Stones over the weekend (exact specifics are lost in the vagueness of the in game news) ..

I've given up on the 7km eggs for the time being. Got a shiny Elekid, two shiny Wynaut, a Mantyke, 3 Chingling, 5 Munchlax, a few Santa hat Pichu and loads and loads of rubbish. All I want is a Riolu, but that doesn't look particularly likely. I drove around with the Go+ and 7 open egg slots yesterday trying to get a 10km with a Feebas in it and picked up almost exclusively 2km eggs (facepalm).

The Swinub Community Day news in-game seems to suggest that you'll get more chances to get PVP rewards on that weekend (5 a day instead of 3 for battling your friends, I think) and up to 5 Sinnoh stones on CD itself. I have 13 at the moment so I'm not too worried. I'll probably evolve no more than six. I have four 96% and a 98% either Swinub or Piloswine at the moment, and almost 2,000 candy. Actually, come to think of it, those 2km eggs I picked up could contain Swinub, so maybe it was a blessing in disguise?

I'm also intrigued by the leak of the Eevee models with the flowers on their heads, like the Pika family models that were found a few weeks back. I suspect some kind of equinox event for March, perhaps even another Eevee CD to herald the release of Glaceon and Leafeon. It's going to be a nightmare trying to get all the different variations if there's no re-usable trick to getting what you want (like with Espeon and Umbreon). Sure, there will likely be a naming trick for Leafeon and Glaceon which I'll probably use on the existing shinies to guarantee one of each, but I also have high CP, high IV normal Eevees earmarked for each evolution, too.

Doesn't look like I'll manage to get a shiny Taillow this event; managed 2 Ziggys and a Psyduck .. but Taillow is avoiding me. Which is a shame, as he looks nice.

Palkia is the next raid boss for a month .. least I won't have to purchase raid pass after raid pass for another month hunting a shiny or a better than 93% Groudon
