I've done quite a few lucky trades with my son. Nothing amazing yet, but they definitely boosted the rate. About one in ten trades, by the look of it. Lots of potential shinies. He needs a blue Ponyta and I'm still hunting for shiny Poochyena. Seems to be heaps of Growlithe around too, even when not weather boosted. Keen to catch and reroll as many Torchic as possible to get a nice lucky for the inevitable Community Day special move.

So there's a new Meltan event that started recently and they mention that Meltan only appears when a Mystery Box is opened. Is this the Mystery Box that owners of the Switch Pokemon games can get? So is this event of no use to me since I don't own a Switch (yet)? Or am I missing something?

Yes, you need to transfer a Pokemon to Let's Go and it'll award you a mystery box that, upon opening, spawns up to 20 Meltan over a 30-minute period. Once you've used the box you have to wait 7 days (reduced to 3 for the event) and then you can transfer another Pokemon to Let's Go to reactivate it. You don't need to own a Switch - you can transfer a Pokemon to anyone's game and get the box. There's no limit to how many accounts you can link to one instance of Let's Go. A couple in our raid crew carry their Switch around with them and dole out mystery boxes to anyone who wants them. A whole bunch of us did our mystery boxes together yesterday at the park. We got two shinies out of a total of 12 accounts spawning 18-20 Meltan each, so odds of around 1/120. Some people have reported getting 2-3 from one box. I did't get one and neither did my son. We do have enough candy to evolve Melmetal but I'm not sure I have one that's good enough yet. Might wait until the event is over and then pick one.

So I don't need to own a Switch myself but I need to find someone that has a Switch and a Lets Go game?

Hmm... My boss' brother owns a Switch and a Lets Go game. What do we need to do in order for me to get a Mystery Box? Does he just need my PoGo player name or do I need to transfer a pokemon to him somehow? Do we need to be physically close to do this?

I was so glad I procrastinated as I was able to get a new Meltan box on Tuesday but didn't ..

Did so on Wednesday when I saw the news - didn't get a shiny and my best is currently a level 2 93%, but I do have over 1000 candies now.
Just have to remember to reload the box every 3 days ...

No shiny Spoink yet ... though I got a random shiny Eevee while out getting a coffee and a few perfects from research tasks

You need to be in proximity to him as I believe it works by Bluetooth connection. The instructions are here. You just link the devices and then send him a Kanto region Pokemon (can't be a special hat Pika but most others are fine). Then you'll magically receive the mystery box, which you can open at a time of your choosing. Don't do it late at night and fall asleep halfway through like one of my friends did, lol.

Ah, ok, that won't work for me then with my boss' brother as I'm unlikely to ever meet him (he's in South Auckland and I'm on the Shore). Never mind.

We might be able to hook you up - or Mike and Jordyn often bring their Switch to Community Day.

On Wednesday I asked if anyone wanted to meet up and trade, or raid .. silence ..

Thursday and Friday - multiple requests from people who know I have a switch to bring it in and give them a Meltan box .. I told them they should have come along on Wednesday as my weekend is look rather busy and I don't bring the Switch into work

Shiny Spoink is not in the game - something I have come to the conclusion after checking and catching quite a few  (I wish I had taken before shots of the number caught to back up my gut feeling of checking over 100 a day)..

So we get Ancient Power on Mamoswine this Community Day - probably just evolve one and evolve the rest I have saved afterwords.
Still not sure how I feel about adding a second move to Community Day (or Legacy Move) Pokemon - something about it doesn't sit well with me ...

My son and I both have shiny Spoink ;) He caught a shiny Ponyta the other day, too, which he was super happy about since he didn't get one when it was first released.

I'm probably going to evolve at least one of my very good Swinub/Piloswine to Ancient Power because of the suggestion that stat buffs are coming and it might be very cool to have. If that doesn't eventuate I'll TM it away and just leave it on a token shiny. If it does eventuate I have no problem adding a second move so it can also be an epic ice attacker. Probably cheaper than evolving another one with Avalanche and powering it up to the same level.

We should be getting a pink event later this week - hopefully we'll see some new Pokemon along with that. Honestly, Gen 4 may as well not be in the game for the number of them that I see in the wild.

Me three.

Nor do Shiny Magikarp.  Only caught 4176 so far.

So the Lunar New Year event ended, and straight into the Valentines event - pink Pokemon everywhere, though locally that seems to mean mostly trash + common weather spawns ..
6 hour lures were supposed to be a think, however at the start of the event they were 1 hour lures with spawns every 6 minutes rather than every 3; then they became 6 hour lures with a spawn every 36 minutes. I now have a feeling they are 6 hour lures without any spawns ...

No shiny Spoink for me ..
No shiny Meltan either .. at least the double candy seems to be working from the Valentines event so I should be able to get a couple more boxes completed before the event ..
