Got a couple of questions for network experts.
When designing a new house, anyone know if there is a maximum distance between the ETP entering the building from an external wall, and where the HDP Home distribution panel is located? I am planning to install the HDP abut 6 meters away on an internal wall, but on the chorus website I recall it saying that they should be ideally located one above the other.
Also can HDPs be installed in a normal cupboard, or would it need to be mechanically ventilated. eg What is the minimum space needed in a room for a HDP?

Chorus encounter a lot of different set ups, versus what they would ideally like in their installation guides.

In a perfect world, located one above the other is correct.

However what I would do in your case would be to install conduits with long sweep bends between the ETP and the HDP - include draw wires or Cat6 to make this easier to use.

Normal cupboards are fine... it depends on what gear you are putting in the HDP. - if you are worried, you can add mechanical ventilation.

Minimum space is down to how difficult you want to make it for the installer more than anything.

I realise this doesn't give you firm answers, but real world solutions are often very different to guides, and every install has different considerations.

Thank you, that is very useful. It is probably something that is also best finialised onsite when it comes to building with the installer, just have to make sure it is noted on the plans. My reasoning for having it central is so network wiring is more centralized and minimise the longest runs, otherwise it all has to come from one end of the house

Yeah, central is better, particually if you are wanting to use HDMI over cat-6 units since those are not going to push the full 100m that ethernet is specced out to do.

The one above the other on the 'ideal' world designs is so it is easy to draw through fibre/hybrid/cat6 cables ae required and not have to reinvenet the pathways to install new or replace - as has been mentioned on other replays a straight/ish pipe or pathway with draw-wires between the two is what is required
