Does anyone have any suggestion for a good Hamachi replacement on Windows? It must run as a service.

I tried the Windows Server built-in SSTP but it's too unstable, with either not connecting or continuous disconnections - besides being a lot slower than UDP solutions.

I was trying OpenVPN at home - I'm looking at something for our servers. We have SSTP but that's pretty unstable - connections drop now and then. OpenVPN would be good but then have to change the firewall rules - doable but wanted something to drop in like Hamachi really.

Personally when it comes to managing my servers I just do it the lazy way, I have a firewall rule completely opening up my server to my home static IP and just manage it over SSH. Else, OpenVPN works well or you could potentially make your own solution by running a small Linux VM on the same network, adding an iptables rule in to block access from anything but your home IP and just using SSH tunnels to manage your Windows Boxen.

Hamachi is a great tool and have been using it for years. It's just that with Windows 8/8.1 it fails to start sometimes and I don't need a tool that only works every few restarts...

Hmm open a firewall port vs depend on a 3rd party relaying service... Actually does the data centre / hosting provider offer a remote access / vpn solution? Most do, that would allow you to connect to their vpn/remote access infrastructure and not need to open any ports to your servers.

Or just wait for an update to come out for Hamachi. It can't be too far away. Asus already have their 8.1 drivers out.
