Hi ,

As per the title I upgraded form the DGND3700 to the DSL-AC68U and have come into the issue where i am getting "Modem Hangups"

I have played around with the DSL settings they are below, this was set to ADSL2+ and this had massive CRC errors now that I have changed this to ADSL2 it seems to be working better but still get the modem hang ups.

This is highly annoying because I thought I was doing the right thing too make my WIFI better but the disconnects are horrible.

I changed the settings below to help from this forum but still don't know if this is the best settings.

How was connectivity before the change of modem?

Please post modem stats in ADSL2+ mode, you shouldn't change that down as your only hiding the issue itself.

Speed seems a little low, which would go hand in hand with the errors your seeing.

It could very well be that modem is simply more susceptible to noise. at which point i'd recommend just letting it disconnect for a few days, ddDLM will pull back to 9dB and be a little more stable (be it at a minor speed drop.)

highly suspect it's actually line related however..

Hi Hio77,

Firstly thank you for helping me with this.

The router before DGND3700 performed perfectly with no issues just the WIFI was lacking, I put this on last night to run and see if it dropped. Up-time of over 16 hours. Below is the speed I was getting.

Since reading more at work about this router I have reset everything to default too test with a full fresh setup just in case I messed something up, now I am getting better ADSL speed than I was previously but still waiting too see if its stable (up-time of 17 mins so far). But 17 CRC errors already, I dont know exactly what these do or are so not too sure if this is bad or not.

Thank you for looking into this I hope this is enough if you need anymore info just ask, I am more than happy to have a chat if that would be in any way easier as I want to try get this sorted.

I was looking at maybe returning it and getting a DrayTek and then the "Fibre Ready" one if this would be anymore stable, I guess time will tell. I have untill friday where my 14 days runs out.

Hi Guys,

Update got home overnight the modem hung up again. Below is the log and what the DSL link is now.

It dropped from 16000 to 12662

Any help would be appreciated. Sorry I dont know how to add the sys log into a nice format.

That drop is good (really!). It coincides with the move of noise margin from 6dB to 12dB which means the dynamic line management (ddDLM) is doing it's job properly, and trying to find a stable connection.

32dB downstream attenuation is a pretty long copper line, and the sync rate you are seeing doesn't look too bad for that length.

I'd just wait and see what happens over the next few days. A drop and resync every day is fine as ddDLM settles on to a good profile for the line.

Ok that gives me a little more hope with this modem =)

I will wait and see what happens, its a bugger that I didn't set it up all nice just plugged in and the cable in front of where is needs to go as I thought it would still be having issues but I will leave it how it is and see what happens over the next couple of days.

Will it settle and stop with the hangups eventually? As it is really annoying when it decides to drop when I am playing online games.

I expect that if you were repeatedly changing the xDSL settings and the modem was resyncing, then the ddDLM sees the resyncs and thinks there's a line problem.

Let ddDLM do its thing for a few days - it will cause a resync once a day as this occurs - and see what it settles down to, then you can get a good read of whether there is some other line issue that needs to be addressed.

Pre-empting slightly, but what is your house internal phone wiring like? Do you have a dedicated modem outlet / master filter?

Hi RunningMan,

We have a patch that has the input that comes in I have the ADSL line patched to one socket which then goes into a DSL filter then to the modem.

Don't have a phone line anymore, but have always had a filter there.

Take the filter out then - it's needed for voice, not xDSL.

Also, I see that the resync is at 4.20am, exactly the time frame that ddDLM will cause a resync.

Now. Then post the xDSL line stats again - sync rate / attenuation / noise margin are the 3 import ones

The Sync Rate is now lower 10819 Down 1005 up

Stability adjustment is -2

SNR Margin is 15db

Don't mess with that stability adjustment, put it back to disable/0 and leave it there.

It will override what ddDLM is setting, in this case you have pulled back to 12dB last night. it shouldn't adjust from there - you will probably find it's rock solid from there be it 4mbit slower.

The Asus is quite well known for being a little bit of a picky chipset and/or firmware, it's a shame it's so popular...

The stability adjustment changed when removing the DSL filter by its self, should I put it back

Just let it settle - the repeated DSL drops are making ddDLM think the line has more problems than it really does - as a result, it's increasing the noise margin and pulling the sync rate back to try to make it more stable.

It will resync (usually in the early hours of the morning) about once a day for the next week or so - keep an eye on it, but it is normal.
