I thought about a wireless USB dongle thing, but screw it I'm taking it in for repairs. I'm just going to copy the contents of my harddrive before i do so just incase my files go missing or something happens.

OK: now it's official.  See this message from HP:

 http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c01087277&dlc=en&lc=en&cc=us .

Send your laptops in.  And, no, I don't think you should just get a wireless card because I think there's something wrong with the motherboard itself.

HA!

Typical... my model of notebook (V3000) is not included in the free repair models from

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c01087277&dlc=en&lc=en&cc=us%20.

as that is in regard to the USA

Donkey Kong .. How did you go about sending yours away?
who do i contact?
will it need to be sent outside of Australia?

i really wish this prick of a problem never happened (along with alot of other people)

ive had no luck with the HP and Compaq live support and email support.

please give me a yell back about what i should do to get it sent away and fixed ...for FREE!

thanks guys

Just an update.

I got a call from Harvey Norman central office in manukau who advised me my Compaq Laptop is going to be too expensive to fix!!

So they are going to replace it.
Today I woke up to discover a Brand Spanking new Toshiba laptop waiting for me. - I was a bit peeved it wasn't Compaq - I think they are nicer looking

But was not upset when I saw the upgrade in Specs from my old one - 1GB Ram/webcam/100GB HDD etc.

Overall VER VERY happy with harvey normans extended warranty service.

WOw.. that is surprisingly awsome, apart from loosong all your files, unless you fully backed up, which again would be the best..

my computer (presario V3000) should be back to me in the next week,

i sent it to harvey norman who sent it to a hp authorized shop where they repalced the motherboard, thank christ for the extended warraty, i suppose i should work the arse off it when it returns to ensure this wont happedn again..

problem solved
peace.
