If you want to game and run a server just forget wireless.
It is never faster than a wire, don't care if it is G, N or XYZ.

Do yourself a favor run a cat6 cable to your room, then you will also be able to run a Gbit Ethernet switch so when you want to transfer a large file to another PC it will take a fraction of the time.

I agree, hopefully that will be the plan.

Zeon:

It's incredibly tricky to terminate STP with RJ45s but OK for punch down. And why do you need STP patch cables also? But yea, not much need for STP in your house. Maybe if you are in a factory running your cable parallel to a 10 billion volt line...

Leaving the shield floating will make it have a negative effect compared to UTP cable in all the docs I have read.

I have never felt the need to try the stuff, the HDMI extenders I have say they work better with it, but they work fine on UTP over the length they are supposed to.

Unearthed cable shielding do not negatively affect the data since the twist is more important, but it won't help much either. They can create a problem with electrical safety in the unlikely event that it becomes charged, but why would a house need shielded cable anyway...

Hope you find a good way to get that cable through anyway.

Time to find a new industry!

Hi there, so we're going to get someone in. I have looked at yellow pages and haven't really found a network specialist. Can anyone recommend someone/company good?

As mentioned before, flick me your contact details if you would like me to price up the work for you.
