Great high quality prod updates as usual from UBNT..
.37 preview update seems to have sorted mine.
Hey all,
I sunset this controller a few years back as I wasn't personally running UniFi gear anymore. But, this is just an announcement that I'll be shutting it down for good on March 1st 2026.
The reasoning behind this is Ubiquiti have stopped supporting the older UniFi controller software in favor for UniFi OS. I will not be migrating the controller.
If you've currently got access points in this controller then you can reset and manage them via the mobile app going forward or by a self hosted server.
If you've currently got a UniFi Security Gateway, switches etc then this will affect you more. You'll need to migrate. I can provide you with a backup but I'm told this doesn't work too well with these older legacy devices. Instead, I would recommend replacing the UniFi Security Gateway with a newer device.
After March 1st, the UniFi controller will cease to exist. Anything talking back to it will no-longer be able to be managed.
I understand this is a short timeframe but I do not want to risk anyone being potentially compromised. Many of you have moved off to other platforms now since the sunset.
Apologies we couldn't quite make it to 10 years but we did come pretty close!
Edit: This is now decommissioned!

If anyone has any need/interest, I'd be happy to stand up a Unifi OS Server though as Michael said, a lot of devices have the unifi server included, or can be managed with the mobile app instead, so perhaps there isn't?

Hi, are you saying my current AP would need to be reset and then reconfigured and paired with whatever is replacing the controller app?
currently, the controller is on an old laptop which I haven’t fired up in over a year….even longer for the controller portion….the AP just keeps working (as I don’t have a need to play with its settings, I think it’s doing auto updates).
It's going to have an external inform URL, you can SSH into it and give it another if you still have the SSH password. I have not found that they would just rediscover and connect to a now local controller that was running a restored backup from a remote one. Had to do the inform URL thing and then it connected and reprovisioned from the local one.
It has been a long time since I did this and I don't know how it goes restoring backups into the newer single site only unifi devices.
When I did it I put a backup from my home controller into all the cloud keys going to the remote sites, and then just deleted the sites that were not that site from them so they were now only managing one site.
oh drat.
I just have 2 Unifi AC-Pro APs and an AC-LR AP.
Would it make more sense now to replace these with a more consumer oriented mesh system, or will they continue to work as a wifi mesh system by themselves?

Hi, just to offer a UniFi OS server for anyone wanting to migrate away, I have quite a number of other sites on one particular server, so happy to take on more, no intention to shut it down.
Cyril
I was hanging off it without needing to touch it too.
That was untill the latest firmware bricked it last week :(
(Was my mentioning that a reminder?)
I've left this a little later to allow people to migrate. 24 hours and the controller is getting shut down folks!

@kiwifidget they will continue to work but will not receive any more updates as the update process is managed by the controller. If they are working still and dong the job you need, I'd continue to use them until they become end-of-life. At some point you'll likely want to factory reset and re-adopt them into a new controller.

Thank you for your service.
(***starts frantically researching how to get these things adopted via a mobile app controller after 6 years of flawless running)

Thank you, @michaelmurfy confirmed this for me last night.
They are actually working really well.
I noted yesterday that the 2 AC-Pro units had a status of updates pending or something like that, and I have read about some APs getting bricked by the latest update, so hopefully they never get that update now :)

Thanks for this (and thanks @michaelmurfy for the great service all these years). We had one AC-Lite on this setup which stayed with my ex-wife when we split up. I went round on the weekend to see what I needed to do to switch it over to the app and discovered that the factory reset button must have broken (a paperclip inserted into the hole goes ALL the way in...). I figured it would stop working after the cut-off date so have been working on sorting out a replacement system, but perhaps we can continue using it without updates for a while? Are there any security concerns with it not being updated, or will it just not get the latest and greatest features? If it can continue to work without updates with no security concerns, then perhaps it's worth letting it run a little longer.
@Lizard1977 the access points will still continue to work without the controller but just won’t get updates nor is there any way to configure or monitor them in this state.
The controller is already gone and won’t be coming back I’m afraid. The problem is the controller does have full root access to your UniFi device so if the controller gets compromised then there is a chance your UniFi, network, along with devices on your network could get compromised also. Sure the chance is low here but we’ve seen previous exploits like Log4J give an attacker admin rights to UniFi controllers and so I didn’t want to risk it.
Edit: Another way of factory resetting them is to use a passive 24v PoE injector with a reset button on it. I do have one of these I can send you at the cost if shipping if you'd like to try it?
