Okay - quick but important question!

Is it okay to install an unmanaged switch vertically? (model SG100-24)

And what about a small business router? (model RV042G)

I am guessing that it's fine for the switch but not the router.

I ask because I have to do an install in a VERY small area and I have to build a custom cage with built-in fans to put AV receivers and sky decoders in along with a few network components so anything I can put on its side is useful! It's going to be a 3D maze-cum-birds nest but there is no-where else I can install this stuff in the house sadly.

I wish I could install the sky decoders vertically but apparently the hard disks are made so badly that they can't be installed upright which is very unusual for a hand with disk!

The only concern would be cooling and most things stay cooler when mounted vertically as warm air likes to flow from bottom to top, so you are exposing the largest surface areas to constant passive airflow.
