Hi,

I'm looking at going VDSL with VOIP rather than the traddtional POTS approach for voice.  My internet setup is done so that it all comes in to a cabinet in a cupboard rather than the lounge.  Is it possible to run an extension cable (home made or bought) with an RJ11 connector in to the new voip router terminated in a standard telephone box in the lounge, so I can plug my phone straight in.

Is this possible?  Am I likely to get problems with quality (i've got a load of cat 6 cable that I can use).

Thanks,

CHris

Benoire: Nope, I was planning on moving the standard BS 6312 jack to a new location in the lounge and then run the cable from there to an RJ11 in to the Voip socket of the router...

You could do that.  I have an RJ45 connection connected to my existing phone wiring and I use a cable with RJ11 on one end and RJ45 on the other to connect the Voip socket to the house wiring.

In your case I'd run a couple of cables between the two locations and terminate them both with RJ45 sockets.  That way I could use them for data or phone.
