I recently switched to Vodafone cable broadband. I just noticed this issue. I called Vodafone & they said because I've got cable broadband I'm stuck with a static IP.

I had a dynamic IP with my last ISP & found it useful to bypass long wait times between downloads on sites like rapidshare. (re-setting the router gave me a new IP address & fooled such sites into thinking I was a new visitor).

Anyone got any ideas (apart from switching ISP's?). Does Vodafone offer ADSL broadband so I can get a dynamic IP address?

Thanks.

It's not an "issue" or "fault" the HFC (cable) network has static IP addresses because the way it works. The only way to get a dynamic IP would be changing to DSL.

Even this won't work as most ISPs are now using dynamic IPs with very long timeouts and most likely you'd still continue to have the same IP after modem resets.
