Have a cheap NetComm NB304 non wireless router.  Seems it not just another user in the house will kill the router after trying to load up videos somewhere.  Happens to me also (ie no one can browse etc after that happens).  Rebooting it sorts it again.

Is the router just too rubbish and overheats or something?  Any suggestions?

We do have a number of users in the house.

If the network performance reading of 220ms indicates a round trip from your network card to your router and back, you almost certainly have a faulty router.  From the sounds of things, the rest of the blurb suggests the same.  Try from another computer to confirm.

I would suggest trying another router and putting it under the same stress that would crash this one to confirm if it is the router itself.  If you get a new one, don't touch D-Link, Thomson, speedtouch...etc, with a barge pole.  The TP-Links are great little routers from the Warehouse, or a second hand Dynalink from TradeMe will do fine.

I personally use Netgear.  I have a Netgear DG834G with custom firmware.  I can juice my line for every megabit it has by adjusting signal to noise ratio and have various bandwidth controls too.  Search "DG834G" in TradeMe.  They are between $20.00 and $60.00.  Here is a V4 for $19.00: NETGEAR DG834G V4

If you are interested later, I'll show you the firmware packages and how they might make your internet experience a little better.  :)

Good luck!
