Hi,

I was wondering as I'm getting Fibre installed next week, and if I wanted to use my own modem.
What kind of modem do I need? As I'm looking for something that supports VoIP and good wireless connection.

I did a little research, and found, I need something capable of VLAN tagging? but I don't know what models or brands sell Fibre modems in New Zealand.
Any help would be much appreciated as you can see, I don't know too much about it.

Thanks

You don't need a modem, you need a router.

Most ISPs supply a provisioned router with new connections - is there any reason why you're not going to use this if they are supplying one?

As for using a 3rd party router you need something that supports 802.1p tagging on the WAN so VLAN10 can be set. Probably 90% of Ethernet routers on the market do not support this functionality. There are ISPs who may not support using a 3rd party router without MAC cloning.
