Hi all,

Surely this can't be too much to ask for. I'm trying to find a decently-priced 4G/LTE router that has:

  • The 4G/LTE modem built in (so you just slot in your SIM card)
  • At least 2 x Ethernet (RJ45) LAN ports
  • DHCP server (probably goes without saying)
  • Everything else optional.  Doesn't even need WiFi capability
I'm struggling to find any product that meets the need (which is surprising, surely I'm not the only one). If I have overlooked something, please let me know. Obviously needs to be compatible with NZ's networks :-)

What do you consider "decently priced"?

Good point.  Subjective huh.  Decently priced for me would be around $200-$300.

I may have found something too:

D-Link DWR-922

Sorry I can't post links.  Not sure about compatibility with NZ's network.  4G/LTE is not something I know much about.  The above router is being sold in Australia.  Can I assume it will work in NZ as well?

This list looks pretty up to date with the frequencies being used in NZ:

Check these against the router specs.

$399 is do-able.  Do you have make/model info?

Oh right.  Spark NZ, Wellington, so that's the LTE 1800MHz band, which the router supports.  But then I've heard there's more to LTE compatibility than the MHz.

Will a cheap Mikrotik with a 3G modem attached be a solution here?

OK, impulse purchase, I just ordered the D-Link DWR-922 from Australia.  I have no idea if it will work here.  Technically, seems to support Spark's LTE network so fingers crossed it'll be OK.

Cost was $229 (Aussie $).

Thanks for your thoughts and recommendations, appreciate it :-)

I see you're sorted though :)

Edit: I think it only does 900/2100 on 3G, so no good for 3G fall back on Spark. All good for Vodafone & 2Degrees
