I have a question regarding iPod touch and how it works, particularly the WiFi aspect.   So here goes.

With the WiFi connection can I use Skype through it to make a phone call, providing I have a headphone that has a microphone?  Since Skype is on the internet I wondered if I was able to call that way.

Many thanks

Lilly

I think Skype needs its software installed on the device itself and dont believe there is a version (yet) for the Touch.

Thanks for your help.  Are there other similar programmes that can be used?

There is currently no way to get audio "in" on the touch. When I say "there is no way to get audio in", there is, someone has made a small device, which has a built in mic, to plug in to the dock port on the touch, but it's not available yet, i think so far it is just a "proof of concept".

Unfortunately there is no other program for voip either.

Cheers

The guys that made the dock connecting microphone also made the SIP software.

At this stage there are no 'official' voip applications for the iPod touch. If you are prepared to hack into your iPod (which is surprisingly easy) then a whole slew of extra applications become available, including a SIP-based VOIP program.

If you're interested in all of this, best thing I can advise you to do is google the term 'jailbreak ipod touch voip'. There are many websites devoted to the subject.
