For the local(ish) version, try Sockitz

They're built to Aus/NZ standards and ship to NZ. I'd love to fit a few around our house.

The US socket will never pass NZ safety regulations, the mains and low voltage is too close together/exposed. The Sockitz look the part, and it has C-Tick. It is worth the price.

You can never have enough Volvos!

Has anyone bought and installed any of the Aussie Sockitz mains/USB units? I'm trying to find out how the installation works - is there a removeable faceplate and a baseplate that mounts to the flushbox with two screws in the normal way? It's not clear from the photos on the website and there's no description - I have emailed my question to them but they haven't replied and there's no phone number.

Does anyone know of other brands available in NZ that do much the same thing?

I bought one at Dick Smith's in Queensgate, Lower Hutt. Use it to change my iPhone via USB and also connect my nokia charger. Working fine.

The only way to install an electrical fitting is screw on a base plate and clip/screw on a cover. There is no other way.

From the photo I can see the 5V power supply is fully enclosed and so the mains connection is internal. It looks like a quality fitting.

You can never have enough Volvos!

Looks like it will be covered by a wallwart however. Would have prefered a single outlet with more USBs on it myself.

Haha, that was my exact thought when I saw the DX link. It may be fine, but I don't want a fire in my wall cavity to tell me it isn't.

that one should work.

Only 800mA and likely total instead of per port.

The mains socket is upside down, this is made for China not NZ. Very different surge/safety/EMC requirements.

No C-Tick so when (not if) there is a fire you are not covered by insurance. Also no electrician will install it and give you an electrical certificate (unless he is leaving the country).

The Euro socket (shaver socket) needs either an RCD or shutters for touch protection.

Stay far away.

They are available for some of the low voltage stuff. Not sure if flushboxes or rings need to be certed or not, theres nothing on the boxes ive looked at like a tick etc.

Bigger issues is that there would already be a rectangle size hole in the wall so it would need make good after installation ;)

Isnt that one for the clipsal 2000 plates? I know we had one that was like that but 4 wide at one of the houses for power/tv/otherstuff behind the tv cabinet with a big cover over all plates.
