Called the Kindle Paperwhite, better contrast and higher more pixels but I think most significant built in light and 8 weeks battery life with light on all the time!!

I'd get it for the back lighting alone.

I am weighing up between the new Kindle with fibre optic backlight and the new Kobo Touch Gol announced yesterday.   I dont go much by their claimed battery life.  I have a Kindle Touch that claimed 2 months that I get 3 to 4 days out of a charge.  The Kobo touch I get 5 to 6 days out of.

That's interesting. I get easily a month out of my Kindle 3 (keyboard one). Do you do lots of wifi browsing?

Hmmm, I too have a Kindle Touch, and (particularly with wifi turned off) I get over a month of use between charges..

Looks tasty. Reasonably priced too.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

I will wait for reviews perhaps. Havent seen a picture of the new Kobo Glo or pricing.  Will wait until I know pricing of Kobo models before making decision on which if any to get of new models

It looks like initially at least it is only shipping in the US. I would expect it to open up to other countries but when is anyone's guess. You could look at using someone like shipito. It is my wife's birthday mid November so I am going to hang on for a bit and see if the shipping options open up.

Have the Nook Glowlight and can say that the backlight is well worth an upgrade for anyone wavering. Once you have it you wont look back.

magu: I'd get it for the back lighting alone.

Not wishing to be pedantic but I think it's 'front lighting' which I understand is the main attraction - doesn't produce the eye-strain that back-lighting (like iPad) does. Think it's done by a row of LEDs around the frame of the screen or sumfing like that.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

"The screen uses fiberoptic cables to spread light evenly across the screen when reading with the light on."

To-may-to, to-mah-to.

Light sources appear to be from the rows of LEDs around the frame, but distribution of light could not happen the way it is described in the quote above without the cables being noticeable in front of the e-ink screen. Maybe a mash-up of the two?

Let's call it built-in lighting, then.

I have updated the Geekzone Amazon Kindle order page - now including a link to the NZ Post YouShop service, which should replace Shipito nicely ;)

I have already ordered one of these and will be getting it via the YouShop service. Unfortunately have to wait till the almost the end of October before it ships but long as it arrives before mid November I will be happy (birthday present for wife).
