I did a fairly innocuous image search on Google and clicked on an image that seemed more *ahem* interesting than the others. Straightaway two new tabs opened and a dialog box saying "you have been invited..blah blah...for more information tap OK". Needless to say there was only one option which was "OK".

So I really wanted to close all that stuff, but I really didn't want to tap OK.

Unfortunately with the dialog box open I couldn't find a way of closing Chrome without it returning to the same state.

In the end I uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled. Was this my only option?

Double tap the home button, then swipe the Chrome app away to close it properly.

I tried that. Both Chrome and Safari reopen in the same state. Also tried rebooting the device.

Hmm, sometimes I have found that closing tha app isingthatmethod doesn't work if you reopen the app within 5 seconds or so. Sometimes you need to leave it 30 seconds or so for the 'close' to register.
