There are 2 docks, the standard audio out one is $45, and the video dock with ir sensor and remote is $75

Piece of advice - don't get advice from that person again!!
The whole point about most Apple (and 3rd party docks) is that they are MEANT to be universal! You insert the dock adaptor that came with your device (or by the appropriate dock adapter for your device) into the docking station and you're good to go. Using the relevant dock adaptor means you get a perfect fit for your specific device.
But then, for someone who is on their 4th iPhone, you know this already
