So my iPod Touch 4th Gen sorta got the screen smashed on it, have checked everything and it all still works but the screen is really smashed and parts missing.

What would the best option be to replace or refix it??

Have a look on trade me, there are people selling the screens and some will fit it for free. Otherwise just buy a screen and watch youtube.

Is that the retina display? retina cannot replace glass only, $250+ to swap for refurb thru apple, best option shy of claiming insurance

Yeah it is retina. Dont think I would go with apple for that price seen DIY kits for 100ish

The screen/digitizer must have dropped in value as they were uneconomic to replace when the wife broke hers a few months back, refurb was the better option albeit still horrendous $$$

I seem to remember when they first came out and one of the crowds that do tear-down looked like the 4 was a absolute PITA to get apart.

Yeah you have to do a glass/digitizer/screen (one piece) swap.
