Back on topic......
That stuff article indicated that VF had "restocked". Is this true? Can I wander down to any VF store tomorrow and grab one? Even if I have to resign my contract (which recently expired).

Just visited a Vodafone store (Queen St, Auckland) and was told they had their stock go within 60 seconds of notifying people on the wait list. Put my name down, after an A4 page's worth of names and numbers. Luckily I saw not many going for the 32GB version.

They hope to get more by Thursday.

I agree with the rest of your thread but these price comparisons are a little off by my way of thinking. Looking at population sizes alone you have less people in total in NZ than what's just in the Sydney Metropolitan area. It's purely a numbers game, plus alot of very healthy competition. We're getting the competition in NZ finally but we'll never match the market size.

and the contract terms are quite different too ... the old even if you cancel, you'll still pay us the full cost trick ...

e.g.

Aus VF - Minimum monthly spend is $69. Early exit fee: $69 x months left on contract. Min. cost and Early Exit Fee exclude any applicable handset payments. Unlocking fee applies.

So sure, VF here may be more expensive upfront, but at least you can leave the contract without having to pay the full cost of the contract ...

One way or another, a company is set up to make money ... VF Au and VF NZ just do it slightly differently.

I went to the local "vodafone" store (first mobile). They said they will not be stocking the iPhone 4 at all. So will not be able to get one instore until they are sold at retail stores at a later date.

I'm going down to Christchurch for my birthday in 2 weeks so I may get one then or save up a bit more and get from the apple store.

If vodafone ms offered deals like that here I'd want to buy off them. The difference is that over there they NEED you to want to buy from them.

waited since the launch of 31st july, queued, rejected cos of no stocks,

anyone have ANY idea where they MIGHT sell iphone 4 this week?
i am really looking forward to it, vodafone is just ridiculous in treating consumers

Another 16 days until my iPhone is supposed to arrive, only a tardy month after launch...

That is of course assuming that the NZ courier can deliver it as estimated and not take 5 days to deliver a package which was supposed to be over night.

I have seen iphone 4 being sold on trademe, without the contract, and some from overseas.

Rumour has it that those Apple store orders with the 6 day shipping time are being shipped from the factory in China direct.
