You mean it would potentially keep 4.0.1? You're wanting to get the upgrade right? I'm getting confused...

Either way, in my experience it would be faster to update the phone to 4.0.2 and sync it's contents than do a restore. Just sayin'.

We're not talking about speed, we're talking about avoiding upgrading to 4.0.2 as it will fix the jailbreak.

Can the people who ordered from Apple check their credit card balance?

I ordered about a week and a half ago and nothing has been taken out of my card.. should I be worried?

apple probably will not charge your cc until they ship the product. Fair enough too.

Same thing happened to me dude. They took it out initially but because they didn't charge it after three days or so it automagically goes back onto your card. Here I was with this small explosion in my bank account but alas it was nothing...

Good to know I'm not the only one but if I end up not getting it after 3 weeks of waiting I'm gonna be pissed >_<

i think when you first order it, your card gets charged, just to see if you actually have money at that time, a few days later they release the funds.

my first experience was when i preordered my ipad from the australian apple store. i got charged for it straight away, and then a few days later the funds were back in my card (i was quietly hoping i scored a free ipad.....)

I ordered from applestore the store deducted the money from my card but i lost my card shortly after that.

So im getting a new card/number etc. Do I need to change my card number details in my account so the money can go back on until the phone ships? Or not worry about and see what happens?

Nah, same thing happened to my credit card too. I agree with myndlyz... think they just deduct it to check to see if you have enough credit at the time.

Same thing has  happened to me. I believe they are authorising the Credit Card once a week to make sure that the card has enough credit on it. When authorised it is tied up with that check for what I believe is 3 days before it is available in your account again.

Once your iPhone ships they will process it as a purchase instead of an authorisation

I have an odd entry from the Apple Store on my c/c for $13.99, charged on Monday. They just making sure the card exists? I guess it's better than 'testing' with the full $1300, but it hasn't been credited back yet.

I work for one of the big banks, so I can explain. They are doing what's known as a pre-authorisation and completion transaction. Message Type Identifier MTID 0100 and 0220 if you want to Google the technical details. It's the same as when you stay at a Hotel, they take your credit card and do a pre auth probably for the amount of the expected room cost. It's just a check to see if you have the money, but it also places a hold on that money for a predetermined amount of time. The amount of time the hold stays on depends on which bank, but it is temporary. During that time, you will see that your available balance is minus that hold amount, but your ledger balance should still be what's actually in your account. When the shop actually knows the exact amount to charge, they put through a matching completion transaction which removes the hold on the funds and deducts the cash from your account

Another example would be online grocery shopping, they will do a pre auth for the initial amount (your available balance goes down), then when they can't find some items etc and they get to a final amount, they do the completion for that amount to actually take the money out (your ledger balance goes down).

This situation is a bit confusing for you because Apple have a three week delay and they can't see how long your bank is holding the funds for. The temporary hold is expiring after a few days by the looks of your posts.
