Surface/Surface Pro = Laptop/Desktop. They all run full blown windows now days.

I am 100% in the Surface camp, but I don't think it will stop people buying eleventy billion iPad Pros.

an iPad Pro will do 90% of what your joe executive needs - email and office docs - and will integrate with their iPhone, Macbook and other overpriced apple ecosystem stuff.

From a business - I would go Surface every single time.

The issue is they are different devices, one is a tablet, the other is hybrid. Tablet wise I feel the iPad is far superior, due to the app numbers
and its not a while lot more than the 9.7 iPad cost wise, so i feel its good value

A laptop is better value than the iPad as its got more ports, and so forth, but again, they are different devices

The surface has every program ever written for x86. Number of apps means nothing, its how useful the apps are.

Weight wise it is 100 grams heavier but it is a year and a half old.

I think the really interesting comparison will be Surface pro 4 vs iPad pro.

Your comparing a 100% tablet with a hybrid running a full OS? If Apple provides an iPad Pro running OSX you can do that. Otherwise you can't
I could compare my Windows desktop to my iPad Air or my rMBP 15 to my iPad Air, same thing, albeit more exaggerated, although not that much exagerated

Dont think so, split screen is Air 2 as well. Screen size is pretty much it. But, split screen would be nicer on the bigger screen, watching streaming will be better.
With a good case like my portarait/landscape Targus I think it would be great. More pixels than my Retina MBPro 15'

Thanks - so the Pro and the Surface Pro are really two different devices. I'm running Word/Excel on my Ipad at the moment (admittedly the free version) and it is limited compared with Word on my computer.

As I see it, it all comes down to what your use case is for the device as to which one is better suited.

I got my samsung note 12.2" tablet and people gave me crap about the size of it, but that's the whole reason I got it. Not the stupid pen that I never use.

But I can just see that they will change their tune with apple now making a bigger one, just like they did with the phone when they all started to get the big 6's.

iPad Pro has larger screen, is thiner, lighter and has longer [advertised] battery life. It can wirelessly stream video without a physical connection. Value is subjective, it depends on what's important to you. Some people like Toyotas, some prefer BMWs. Neither is better value are they as quite different products.

I would say that the iPad pro is no longer a pure tablet, it has a keyboard built for it and is being marketed as a productivity tool in direct competition with the surface.

The surface can be used as a tablet no problems. When I am teaching I use it almost exclusively in tablet form, hooked up to an apple tv through air parrot using onenote and a stylus.

It is quite fair to compare the surface pro with the iPad pro, similar price point, similar form, similar accessories.

As I see it, it all comes down to what your use case is for the device as to which one is better suited.

Yes. One issue is that the apps are pretty much all lite, there needs to be full featured apps. The other issue is ease of use compared to a full OS like Windows or OSX. so Apple needs to give a good tablet based exoerience to minimise those non full OS issues.Then the OS becomes much less important. Apple will never create an OSX tablet. If it can do those two things, its a great consumption tablet, whuich wouydkl make it quite a cool device as a part toem laptop replacement and a read/watch/listen device as well.

which is miracast and widi. Ive only tried miracast and it was rubbish compared to the apple tv mirroring with greater lag and much more mpeg blocking making text in some cases unreadable. Apparently WiDi is better but since that is intel locked to certain CPU and wifi combo's I dont have anything that supports it to try.

Thanks :) I only wrote that to refer to the Surface having a DisplayPort connection listed as an advantage, this makes it even less of a selling point, I would think.

Displayport gives a nice clear compression free, lag free image on multiple screens, or 5k on a high res screen, just like a desktop PC.

Wireless mirroring works for showing powerpoint presentations and movies. Cant work on it because of lag, cant have dense text on it because of compression. Also ok for mirroring gameplay so you can show it to others or capture it on a HDMI capture box, but you cant play it on the mirrored ipad to appletv output because of the lag.

And the apple HDMI output from lightning thing sucks hard too. No comparison to native video output.

It might be able to run heaps of legacy software, but font scaling can make applications look ugly, or if you don't scale, then they look teeny tiny.
iOS wins at being a touch input device primarily, with on screen items being the right size to touch etc, that's the benefit of a modern OS designed from the ground up for touch, and throwing out the legacy baggage.
