chiefie: @Spazz? Charged?? Have you looked into your order status?

Yeah it just said 'Not Yet Shipped', but I am still $799 poorer!

Ah:
When will my credit card be charged?
Apple requests account validation from the credit card company when an order is placed. Funds are reserved in the account prior to shipment. Your account is charged a few days before the order is shipped.

Hmm @Spazz what bank are you with? I noticed with my ASB CC that $290 has deducted but not itemised yet - for 2x leather smart covers and VGA adapter.

Ipads and Digital AV Adapter still in "Not yet shipped" stack.

Well, i just went into the mac store yoobee in hamilton and they won't confirm or even talk about if they are selling them today.
All they would say was that they were closing at 4pm this afternoon and reopening at 5pm until late tonight..

Dick Smith here won't talk about it either, all they would say is they are open later tonight..

Wandered into DSE Downtown (Auck) this morning and guy there said they would be selling from 5.00 pm purely on a 'first in first served' basis. He said they didn't how many they would have (or perhaps he didn't want to tell me).

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Hmm, I just tried the same tactic with Bond and Bond Queen St and DSE Queen St.

Bond and Bond told me they were closing at 6pm.  That's an hour EARLIER than listed on their website.
DSE told me 6pm too, their listed closing time.

Regardless, I guess it doesn't really tell me much :)

DSE Featherston St in Wellington have confirmed they'll be selling them, as will Yoobee on Vivian St.

I just purchased mine online as i am not prepared to play games with local retailers. Eg wait online and not being able to preorder Perhaps that is due to apple, but they make it a lot easier to buy on their website. The cover for it has already shipped so hopefully the iPad will ship before the 2-3 week shipping date too .

I called into DSE on featherstone street today and they said they 'may' be selling the ipad from 5pm until 7pm tonight but were unable to tell me if they actually had any or how many. i may head over at 5pm and check it out, would be cool to get it today!

There is also no way to tell what models they will have. They may only have a limited range.

For anyone who got the 'we don't know' from their local store, you might want to ask again. I just saw a staff member at Student IT in Dunedin write an announcement on their blackboard, while a few hours ago they had no idea whether they were getting any today.

That seems so stupid. How can you not know on the day you are selling the product whether you get them or not!

The stores I talked to all said it was apples release specs and they weren't allowed to say anything as it was apples party..
Apple wants to make it a big fanfare on release at 5pm...
