Obraik:
tdgeek: I will get only from Apple, after last time. Hard to know what stocks there will be. And to find out if there will be any Telecom options

I would have done that, if it wasn't a public holiday on that Friday and have to wait until Monday for it to arrive.  Yes, I'm impatient :P

Dont expect on the 11th there are stocks galore, and same for pre ordering from Apple. I'd like one now too, but I will see how it goes, expecting to be told it will be weeks anyway.

ArtooDetoo: 11.11.11? Hmmm...

Anything special about that particular date other than the symmetry?

Yes.  My birthday.  I'm surprised everyone here didn't already know that.  I'm sure it was announced on the news... ;)

Funny, though it's my birthday, my wife will be getting one.  I got a 4 last year, and it's her turn this year, so she gets the 4S.  She'll be moving up from a 5 year old Sanyo clamshell phone on the old CDMA network.  The big issue for us is whether to pay full price and buy from Apple, or buy on contract from Vodafone (or Telecom, if they offer it).  I can't see any point buying a smartphone without a data plan, and I haven't seen any prepay options which offer a reasonable amount of data and txts, which suggests a postpaid plan.  And if you need a postpaid plan, then you might as well sign up, and get the "benefit" of a handset discount.

I'm looking at the $45/month Smart plan from Vodafone.  It's only 250MB data (with an extra 1GB/month for 6 months), but I've found on my plan that I rarely use more than 250MB, making good use of wifi at home.  When I got my plan with VF, it came with 3GB of bonus data every month "until further notice."  12 months later, and it's still going.  I'm not complaining...  :D

Anyone know of a better deal at $45 for txts and data?

Voda have said the 3gb will last the duration of your plan. So you have it until you cancel

Cool! I must have missed that announcement. No need to nervously check my account each month...

There's nothing on Apple's site yet. :(

In fact, their site has been strangely silent on the NZ iPhone 4S launch throughout the week.

Telecom do a $20 prepaid value pack which gets you 20 mins, 1000 txts, 200MB of data.  you can buy multiples of them at the same time, so $40 would get you 40 mins, 2000 txts and 400MB.   Sounds like that might suit you if you would prefer prepaid.

alternatively, if you only want data and txts, you can buy a 500MB data pack for $25 and 2500 txts for $12 = total $37. More data and txts than the above, but no minutes included.

Keen to know what the process is.

Pay upon pre-order or will they bill you when despatched? Given that the wait time may be 2 weeks as it was last year for the 4?
