This Telecom page has a broken iPhone link. Add this to the fact we have official Telecom 11.1 carrier settings and I reckon something is about to happen.

And now it's gone. I saw it, and obviously someone from Telecom saw it too...

I'm keen to move to Telecom so if Telecom offers the iPhone officially that would be a plus.

Can anybody tell me why are you moving to Telecom? Is Telecom's plan a lot better than Vodafone?

I've found the XT network is considerably faster - data is one of my priorities. Also For the same price I think I can get more data on Telecom.

You get less texts, but that's not a problem for me.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've been wanting to ditch Vodafone for a long time, for many reasons.

Coverage strength at my house is terrible -- I'm on GPRS more than half the time, or a bar or two of 3G if I'm lucky. It's not a big deal for data since I'm on Wi-Fi at home, but nearly every time I place a phone call from home people are unable to understand me because the signal is so poor. And it's not like I live in the backblocks; I'm 2 km away from the Palmerston North CBD.

Even when I'm in an area with decent 3G coverage, I've found Vodafone's network to be extremely rickety. Sometimes web pages have flat-out refused to load at all, even with five bars of 3G, unless I cycle my phone in and out of Airplane Mode first. That hasn't been a major problem for awhile, but it was a regular occurrence last year.

Vodafone's tethering speeds via Personal Hotspot on the iPhone 4 have been incredibly slow for months (basically wireless dialup), and they just now got around to fixing it.

Most of the time when I bring stuff like this up to Vodafone, they're eager to look into it until I tell them I have an iPhone. Then they're all about blaming Apple for the problems instead of solving them on their end.

Vodafone's iPhone 4 launch last year was a complete disaster, and I don't expect the iPhone 4S launch to go any more smoothly.

Vodafone has substantially lowered its handset subsidies on the iPhone 4 even though the handset is well over a year old. When I got my iPhone 4 on launch day, I got a subsidy of $530. 15 months later, the same phone I have on a similar plan only gets a $200 subsidy. $530 off in exchange for a 2-year contract was a fair deal. $200 off isn't. Not even close.

I've heard great things about XT's data speeds compared to Vodafone's, and just about everyone I've talked to says that the iPhone is simply better-suited to XT than Vodafone. I'm pre-ordering the phone outright from Apple and bringing it over to XT as soon as it arrives. For one thing, I'm definitely looking forward to never being on GPRS again.

tdgeek: No feedback on any pre-orders?

Being that Apple has issues with times (how many times have we had alarms messed up with daylight saving on the iPhone now? :P ) that they forgot NZ is ahead of the rest of the world.  It's potentially intended as it seems Apple has announcements to make with the opening of pre-orders and since NZ isn't the only country getting pre-orders "today", they're waiting for the other countries to be in Friday as well.  Just my guess.

Or it could be 2010 all over again, lol.

"Pre-order an iPhone 4S now and you'll receive it between 15/11 and 28/11. iPhone 4S will also be available for purchase in carrier stores starting 11/11."

Site is now being hammered by the looks, order has failed twice to go through.

EDIT: Third time's a charm.

Thanks for the update Behodar

Checked a nearby Vodafone store and they're not taking pre-orders yet but said to check back later as "things with iPhone releases change hour by hour"

Yes, site is being hammered - tried once and it gave an error at the end. Trying again now.

Ordered mine, sticking with 2 Degrees so no point waiting for it to hit VF/Telecom stores. Going white this time and giving my black iPhone 4 to the missus, that way she can't 'accidentally' take mine to work!
