And in other news Apple shares dropped -11.53‎ (-2.28%‎) to a close of 494.64 due to this announcement, it's just your standard redesign the old to make it feel like a new product.

Don't know if I agree with that. Sure the aesthetic is largely untouched but the s iteration never does look different. The guts of the device are a major change from the norm though, as is iOS 7 - for better or worse.

Handsomedan:
surfisup1000: [edit] I'm beginning to wonder if the fingerprint scanner is more than just a gimmick given the difficulty of online security in general.  Could be good to simply hit the "ASB" icon, scan fingerprint, then do your stuff.

Same could happen for websites such as amazon where you need to enter a password.

They've said pretty equivocally that no apps will access the fingerprint scanner - it's for unlocking and app-store purchases only...

you misunderstand - apps are free to use the fingerprint authorisation process, but will never have access to your actual fingerprint data.

ah...that makes more sense...

Pricing looks sucky thou,

US unlocked price is 549 for the C and 649 for an S (16GB)
OZ pricing is 739 for the C and 869 for an S

I would guess NZ C pricing will be around 870 while the S is the same price as the current 5 (1030)

I was really expecting a little bit more price difference between the two models,

You must be crazy if you think it is exciting.

Different perspectives, thats all.

1st 64bit chip? Yawn.   Doesn't make my google maps work any better.

Fingerprint scanner -- has possibilities, hardly worth jumping the moon. But, it is the best new feature for me.

Motion chip -- not needed, by me.

iWork/iLife --- on the iphone? Not me please.

If google decides to optimize for 64 Bit iOS, then the A7 WILL actually make goggle maps run a lot better, especially the 3D visuals if using 3D turn by turn navigation.

pretty underwhelmed by how expensive the 'cheap' iphone is (the 5c)

$649 USD for the iphone 5s, but still $549USD for the iphone 5c.

taking into account forex rates, GST, and the premium we normally pay for iphones in NZ, the iphone 5s will probably be $1100, but the 5c (the 'cheap' one) will still be at least $850. that isn't exactly cheap in my book.

But given the 5c is practically a 5 it is a good reduction over the old 5 model for effectively the same thing but a better battery.

With a bit of luck the resale of the 4s should be propped up due to still being a current model helping minimise the hurt spending large for very little change

Agree fully. A faster CPU isnt going to offer a better real life improvement over an already very good CPU. Camera stuff is nice but I already have a great camera.

The best improvement in the 5S is iOS7, which you get free from iPhone 4 and up. I will pay zero to get the many nice new features, and thats a neat upgrade at a neat price. Next year will be 4.7 and the innovation the board told TC he must do a few weeks back, roll on 2014
