brownbox: imagine how much of this trouble could have been avoided if stupid trademe allowed iphones to be sold... only 2 more days then i can get my hands on a decent second hand one at a decent price....

Is it official that TM will allow iPhones to be sold from July 11?

If there are tight restrictions on which plans iPhones, can use, would allowing their sale on TM breach Vodafone T&Cs and would that allow Vodafone to prevent TM sales??

Trademe told me that they are legally bound by APPLE not VF.
Apparently as soon as they're released in NZ you're allowed to sell them on Trademe! $1 reserve ahoy!!!

How did they "tell" you?

They were never prevented by Apple from selling iPhones. That was a decision they made themselves as they didn't want the risk of fraud.

I have emailed customer service stating that alot of people on Geekzone are waiting for feedback about purchases that members have recently made, I also refered to the fact that contacting the Police, and Fair Go, had been discussed and that the phone number from the WhoIs query doesn't work.
I asked for some kind of reassurance, and that any reply would be posted on geekzone.

Here's hoping they are legit and not ripping you guys off!.

trademe doesnt sell them in order to prevent fraud. Apparently it will be  sold once the iphone is actually for sale in nz. TBH the whole thing is (fill in the blanks) but, yeah.

I contacted a guy selling iphone 16gb on sellmefree for 300$ XD... just for the hell of it

i said i would buy it if he could convince that it wasnt a scam, this is what he said

"Hey i love the way you expressed your feeling. I understand the way you feel and how feel you dont want to be ripped off  and i'm given  you 100% assurance that here in our company you ill surely get what you paid for because our company is not after anyone's money but after good name in society so have nothing to be affraid off  here in our company people get what they paid for here in our company so you have no problem with us.

Remember you are save with us.

Regards..."

The guy keeps talking about "his company" and how they just want a good name in the society, still he never says the name of the company.. Hes obviously not even in NZ cuz hes english is aaaalot wors than mine, and mine aint that good, and cuz he allways sends emails in the middle of the night nz time XD..

So i just gave him my name & address and said that i wouldnt pay one cent until its in my hand..

but anyways, im looking to buy a second hand iPhone, best if its located here in christchurch so i can just pick it up..
u guys think that trademe will have some after friday?? :-)

You could always use something like www.safetrader.co.nz - if they shy away from that they're definitely dodgy.

I've just taken a good look at the i-store website. You should definately NOT buy anything from them. Last year, my wife narrowly avoided being ripped off by a similar setup but the website was one for music related tech.

1. They do not appear to have any phone numbers or address listed on the website - BIG DANGER SIGN.
2. Check the terms and conditions. They refer to the "Business Consumer Act of 1993". There is no such Act in New Zealand law. BIG DANGER SIGN.
3. Insanely good prices. BIG DANGER SIGN!
4. They claim to have large numbers of product in stock, yet can't deliver 'Next Day'. BIG DANGER SIGN.
5. YOU CANT PAY BY CREDIT CARD - HUGE DANGER SIGN!!

Everything about them looks exactly the same as the bad eggs we ran into last year (except we paid by credit card and were able to get a refund).

If you've already ordered something from them, pester them every single day until they either deliver the goods or give you a full refund.

If you are thinking about buying something, think again. Dont do it - it's just not worth the pain.
