That photo was taken at 8.25am this morning in AKL. I heard there were 3 or 4 in the line at 11. No idea now what the latest is in AKL.

Cosmin: You are then essentially making a $45 plan into a $65, and a $65 into a $85.
Might as well move to Telecom then and keep your costs low.

Telecom
300txt  100mins  1GB Data  $549(4S 16GB)
Total $60/month

Vodafone Smart 45 with 1gb data added on ($45/month the first 6 months)
2500txt  100mins  250mb Data (+1gb for $20/month)  $649 (4S 16GB)
Total $65/month (45/month + 20$ for 1gb of data)

the 100$ handset difference seems like it would be offset by the first 6months of 1GB extra free from VodaFone (worth 6 x $20) ami right?

Actually no.

$5 per month extra and the $100 handset difference equates to a $220 difference at the end of the 24 month term.

clearly you missed this in your calculations:

1. the 100$ handset difference seems like it would be offset by the first 6months of 1GB extra free from VodaFone (worth 6 x $20) ami right?
so suddenly the difference is $100 over 24 months

2. The vodafone plan with the addon has an extra 2200txt/month and 250mb/month
you can math it out if you want, but really the difference become negligible.

But you know, rep telecom all you want.

Beccara: Any word on the disconnection fees for both VF and Telecom?

Vodafone: http://help.vodafone.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/13852/
Telecom: http://www.telecom.co.nz/binarys/schedule_of_disconnection_fees_1_feb_2011_updated.pdf

That Telecom one looks off, There is no smartphone $120 plan which is the free phone plan. Even so it's a little steep - $1600 to disconnect at any point in the first year? Yikes - Better off paying for the phone outright

I walked past at lunch earlier this afternoon (about a hour ago) and Welly has some security guards near the store and two girls with bright blue Telecom hats :)

If I was a student again maybe I'd debate about lining up early but then the wind is awfully cold here in Welly today!!

I'm sure that will change :-)

I just hope you have enough boxes behind the counter to keep us all happy when we do come to see you?

The guards are probably there to stop the rioting when people find out they don't have enough stock?

Don't jest, it could be true.

When the 3G was released in the UK I was up early but the 11th person in the queue at the O2 store. Yes, you guessed it, they only had 10!

Perfectly good for Apple because they know it will make you want it even more then the news agencies can go "oh look, they all sold out"!!!!!!11

Oh yes, I know. I'm sure supply isn't quite as constrained as they make it out to be. Always makes good news to have short supply and creates more desire. It also makes people who are dithering whether to buy one or not pull the trigger immediately when they find one available. It's amazing how quickly people will make a purchasing decision of an expensive item if they think they might not have a chance if they don't do it immediately.

I've gotta use my prepay credit unfortunately before I can go in to my local XT and get the 64 Gb version.
Im guessing they will be hardest to get at first, but I'm still trying to chew through my leftover credit as quick as possible lol.

You can't transfer it over? I think Vodafone lets you do this.
