Yes, ziPhone can run on any any firmware version. That was going to be my next suggestion. Restore to 1.1.2 and run with Activate/Jailbreak settings and see if you have wifi after that.

Ok well I will give this one a try tomorrow. I am going to try to use a proper wifi connection tomorrow afternoon and see how that goes. If all fails I will attempt the 1.1.2 restore with ziphone.

Yes, your unlock would remain intact but I would not "upgrade" to 1.1.3 as it does say ziPhone needs to run on a fresh OS and you would obviously still need to jailbreak/actiavte after upgrading :P

Hhhm, bugger that does not help... That possibly could have been a loop hole for me..

Well I will keep looking around, try the true wifi tomorrow then revert to a 1.1.2 if needed..

@Daneger.

If you wanted to transfer that wifi plist file mentioned in my other post, you could do it via USB. Probably worth it if you can't set up SSH. Here's how to set up USB file transfer on Windows:

First get t-pot. The most recent version at the time of this writing is at: http://code.google.com/p/t-pot/downloads/list

t-pod is a plugin for an application called Total Commander.

Download and install Total Commander from: http://www.ghisler.com/download.htm

After Total Commander is installed, unzip t-pot to a folder. Run Total Commander and goto "Configuration/Options" in the file menu. Goto "Plugins" and then click the "WFX" menu button. "ADD" the t-pot's .wfx file that you unzipped. After adding it to Total Commander, close Total Commander, and load it again. T-pot should now be installed.

To use:
Connect the iPhone via USB.
At the top of the two window panes is a drop down menu usually labeled [-c-]. Select Network Neighborhood [--] from it. Choose t-pot from the window pane. You should now be looking at the file system of your iPhone. Now you can drag over files from the other window pane to it.

....and if you can then connect via USB and you can transfer files, try uploading the JohnTool so you can disable power saving. As another option, which maybe a long shot, if you know anyone with a mac and and a wifi connection you could get them to try it for you.

Wow, thanks again for the great advice guys!

Great to know there is another option instead of SSH.

Now I normally use iphonebrowser to transfer files to my phone, however it can not access at the moment (or ibrickr) after the unlock and needs the fix from installer to recognise a complete jailbreak.

My question is, if I go ahead and try this commander/t-pot am I going to encounter the same problem? Ie not being able to access the directories because it does not recognise as being there??

i think I will try:
a) Proper wifi tomorrow - if no luck then:
b) T-pot plus plist - if no luck then
c) T-Pot plus John Tool - if no luck then
d) Restore to 1.1.2 and ziphone again to check for wifi.

Atleast I have a few options now.

So will t-pot work do you think??

This sounds interesting..

So you think its possible something to do with the power saving my be restricting my access??

Also, what is the chance of the 1.1.3 firmware file I have being the problem?? Can anyone advise as to whether this could be part of the issue??

The power saving feature, which is automatically enabled and can't be disabled without 3rd party intervention, does affect how wi-fi works, or atleast it does on mine. Before I installed it, ANY time the screen switched off so did the wi-fi. Then when the screen came back on it reconnected. After installing, the wi-fi is always active. Now don't get me wrong, my battery doesn't last as long, but then I am generally always near a power source, wether it be a wall outlet, computer, or car charger, so for me that's not an issue.

Did you download the 1.1.3 file from iTunes? If not then I would do that, instead of one you have from another source.

Have you been doing a shift restore? If so then you should be able to connect the iphone and click restore. It will ask you the usual questions and then start to download the restore file. Whilst it is downloading you can disconnect the iPhone and it will not have done anything, but the download will contnue.

However having said that, I would just wait until you want to restore and do it then, just to be on the safe side.

That *shouldn't* be an issue, mine is fine and I didn't put it into DFU mode first. However it may make a difference in this case so it is probably worth trying. (We have tried most other things now

)

HHhm, ok just checked through my history and it appears that is the exaxt location of where I downloaded the file.

So I do have the official firmwre direct from Apple.

Bugger, gave me hope for a second there.

The ziPhone readme specifically says to place the phone into DFU mode and the latest version now has that tool built in. I think this is because DFU mode doesn't boot up the Mac OS whilst Restore mode does.

@Daneger - What were the "exact" steps you took to Restore to 1.1.3? Also, just checking that you did NOT restore your iPhone settings back-up from iTunes after the jailbreak/activate??

I always take notes of my steps so it is easy to track what I have done - HOWEVER, with this ongoing issue I have put the pad down as i have been back and forth so many times!

On one occasion I simply restored in itunes, on the other itunes was playing hard to get so I had to go into DFU..

Ziphone requires DFU mode does it?? Do the newer versions do it for you? Does that include 2.2? That is what I used last.

Sadly I can not remember the exact steps over the last 3 or 4 times I have restored/ziphoned.

SO perhaps I should try this again step by step..

Can someone chuck here the exact steps they have taken or that I should take - perhaps I need to see it again and am getting ahead of myself with some of the steps.

Oh and no, I am not restoring from an old..

ziPhone itself actaully requires ~~Restore~~ [EDIT]meant to say Recovery - some call it restore, some call it recovery[/EDIT] mode to run the activate/jailbreak etc but it does that part automatically for you (since v2.0 I think).

It's for the Restore to 1.1.3 that the ziPhone readme stipulates placing the iPhone in to DFU mode for teh restore. ziPhone 2.3 now comes with a ENTER DFU MODE.bat file to put your phone into DFU mode for you. So you would simply run that then restore to 1.1.3 in iTunes then run the ClickHereX3.9.bat file.
