Do you mean baked in or have the ability to edit any video because iOS has had video editing since 2010. I may sound like a blind Apple follower but I'm not really, I just feel with all smart phones there is very little separating them from each other and the things that do like NFC, screen size etc are not features that would make me pay >$800 for a new phone. Apple included. That is why I still have a 3 year old phone.

I bet the next Samsung, HTC etc that comes out will be the same.

On the S4 it's baked in, the HTC One it's the same, but there's free apps such as Magisto that do the same too :)

Don't think I will be able to wait until december, so will get a 5s from the US with a Apple Care plan, should take care of issues here in NZ right?

I presume that the price on it will have to drop, as using cheaper materials, they would be making better profits on it anyway. These thigns still have such tiny amounts of storage in them. The 5 iphone 5s maybe 40 time fater than the iphone 1, but the lowest model only comes with 4 times as much storage. There was a 16GB iphone 1, while the lowest iphone 5s (7th gen) has 16GB, and a max storage of 64GB. What happened to a 128Gb iphone?

How much cheaper do you think the plastic cover is compared to the aluminium? I would say less than $10, the processor is the same as the 5 as are all the other components and features, unless I have missed something.

Cheaper materials don't make a massive difference, not by 50%, I was expecting a cheap Iphone based on the 5 so I am disappointed, mostly for our workers as some may be ready to upgrade from their Iphone4.

Would I buy Iphone5 on run out over the 5C DEFINATELY, the Iphone5 is a very good phone, one of the best in the world!

I am quite pleased that the 4S is being retained but I would have liked to see that at $499NZD as the Iphone4 has been specialled at lately.

I was also quite underwhelmed with what was announced, I wanted more products, but the lead up to this event was also a bit underwhelming for me.

Hopefully in October we'll see some significant releases. Ipad mini2, my prediction is without retina, Ipad5 finger print sensor with A7X chip, I don't see what else they could do, maybe the 8MP camera, but really the Ipad makes a crap camera so that wouldn't really make a real difference. Apple TV - don't care what it is if they run out the old one. Iwatch - maybe to replace the nano?

The 5c apparently has a bigger battery than the 5 so there's a good reason in itself to buy the 5c over the 5

To be honest why you wouldn't splash out the bit extra for the 5s is beyond me, if you can afford a 5c you should be able to afford a 5s as the difference is not huge all things considered. Reading between the lines iOS7 is optimised for the 5s and its 64bit chip so I would hazard a guess that the benefits of the 5s over the 5c will shine in user experience

I was thinking about these the other day. I vaguely remember seeing an IBM research project in the late 90s on augmented reality glasses. Specifically around the concept of geo-tagging locations - the idea that if in a shopping mall you could leave a note for yourself or someone else outside of a shop and when you or they passed by, the note or info would be displayed. The patients around these would be quite interesting because they have been available and used in the commercial industry for a couple of decades - there are quite a few players in this market.

On the apple front, what I would really like them to do is put a decent sized SSD in the apple-TV and allow us to download our ITunes library to it so it becomes the central ITunes storage location (with the ability to take an additional USB or storage unit for expansion, may be use multiple units and stack and link them together). Air-Play would be a way lot more easier.

google glass is very cool, but it is not augmented reality

A little OT but I feel google glass (like other products) is too ahead of itself. People already say they won't buy a smart watch cause their phone already tells the time... And watches would be the next easiest wearable tech to introduce people to IMO.

I struggle to see why everyone has a problem with yesterday's announcement by Apple. If you look at it logically you should have realised:

With the number of extensive leaks about the 5C and 5S over the past few months, nothing about the Apple launch yesterday was going to wow people. Most of us suspected what was coming so a little intelligence suggests we weren't going to be blown away.
Every other "second year" update has always been an 'S' update keeping the same form factor with better internals. Why was anyone expecting anything different this time?
What they did deliver was a decent improvement from the 5 if you take point 1 above out of the equation.
They did introduce a completely new handset in the 5C (even though it is very close to the 5 internally). I do agree with everyone though that they have priced it wrongly.

Personally it is a huge difference to my existing 4 and I will be upgrading. I can understand why people with 5's already would have also been underwhelmed, but we all know from history how Apple's refresh cycle works so there should not have been any surprises.

This is just my view on things now that the dust has settled slightly. I do question though why the only phone currently for sale on the Apple NZ site is a 4S. That is an odd move, and hopefully a hint that the release of the new handsets here in NZ are imminent.

I also just discovered the 5S is the first phone to use the dual flash technology (2 flashes with different colour temperatures) - i'm looking forward to ditching my point and shoot camera at long last.

Watch out. You run the risk of the phone being locked to a specific operator, and if you're a Telecom customer then you may also have issues with LTE (the US models don't support band 7, which I've heard is being used by Telecom in some locations).

If I was to chose between the iphone 5, and the iphone 5c, I would chose the 5, simply because of the better casing. The 5c is essentially a year old phone in it's technology anyway, and I have had a polycarbonate iphone before and it cracked around the buttons.
But if I was spending that sort of money I would go for the 5s. Don't know anyone wanting the 5c, and it is funny how the media are advertising it as a cheap iphone when it isn't all that much cheaper than the 5s. The 5c does look to be a cheap looking version of the ipod touch which does have the same sort of casing, but in aluminum instead of plastic. Hope they don't make the ipod touch plastic in the future too.

The 5C also has an upgraded FaceTime camera.

I'm picking the polycarbonate is going to wear a lot better, and probably get better reception with the elimination of the metal back.
