myopinion: Yes the apple remote app not working via iPhone or watch is annoying they should fix this.

Also universal search isn't working for me. Netflix titles are not showing in the results, only iTunes stuff which is really annoying.

Same, I haven't been able to get Universal Search working. It was a bit tricky to get US Netflix running too, had to use DNS unblocker plus select the US iTunes account in settings.

Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to get Hulu up and running in NZ?

I'm pretty sure universal search worked when I tested it on Friday. I know Hulu came up in my search hits when I asked about a particular show.

Unotelly have instructions on how to get Hulu. http://help.unotelly.com/support/solutions/articles/17021-how-to-sign-up-hulu-plus-outside-usa If you use a geo-unblocker or VPN and go to their site, it's very easy to sign up. The important thing is using a payment method they will accept. I use an AirNZ OneSmart MasterCard Debit (the travel one with the different currency wallets). However if you have a US iTunes account you can also subscribe using iTunes, and it'll bill the iTunes account instead. The OneSmart card also works for US and UK iTunes, so it's well worth getting if you are an AirPoints member. Otherwise you have to buy foreign iTunes gift cards online to redeem the codes and put the accounts into credit. Make sure you have a US address you can enter, too. Pick one from Oregon, or you may be charged extra sales tax (Oregon has none).

I just tried pairing my Dualshock 4 and it picked it up easy enough but I couldn't use it. It was recognised as a game controller but I could not navigate the menu or use it in games.

Upgraded from ATV2 with FireCore jail break...

Pretty disappointed the Remote App doesn't work and it seems BT keyboards not supported either, using the onscreen text entry thing is a bit of a pain and very slow.

Quite pleased the old remote still works, I actually find that easier to use for general browsing. Haven't tried any games but the kids were playing a lot of Crossy Road and seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Anyone tried many other games? Quite a few there but many with relatively steep prices compared with iOS.

Did I read correctly that this doesn't have an optical output? Is HDMI the only way to get audio out of it?

The reason I ask is that our current Apple TV (3rd generation) has an issue if we use the audio passed through from HDMI. It is plugged into our Panasonic VT plasma, with the Panasonic connected to our A/V receiver using an optical cable (receiver doesn't have HDMI ports). If we run the audio this way, the sound slowly gets out of sync. with audio lagging behind the video. This lag seems to be a fault of the TV and not the AV receiver, as you notice the same lag if you have sound going through the TV speakers. The strange thing is that the ATV is the only device that suffers this problem, and it doesn't seem to happen with other sources which have its sound passed through HDMI.

As a workaround, we had to purchase an optical switch (or receiver only has one optical input), as this lag never happens when the ATV outputs sound via this.

And a nice side-effect of this workaround is that we then get full 5.1 output from the ATV, whereas it is downgraded to stereo when using the HDMI passthrough method. This doesn't bother me too much if it is lost, as our receiver actually does a pretty great job of faking 5.1 sound from stereo sources.

Yes that is correct, no optical anymore, Power, Ethernet (only 100mbs), HDMI and USB-C only.

Anyone care to wager a bet how long it takes tvnz and tv3 to produce an app? My gut tells me that their deal with Samsung probably precludes it, especially when you consider that they don't even allow you to AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad.

They do already have iOS apps, so it should be pretty easy to make those work on Apple TV

I don't care about the old linear TV. I watch more Netflix than "TV" now.
If they bring lightbox/neon that will be enough for me to dump SkyTV.

If "TV" stations do not supply Apps quickly it will only hasten their demise.

Yes but those apps specifically restrict the ability to AirPlay content to an Apple TV. That being the case, they clearly don't want you to or don't have the legal rights to allow you to play content on that device, so why would they build a native app that achieves the same thing.

I'd love an Igloo app. At $19 its not bad value for those doco channels and a bit more. But its their STB only. It can connect via UHF or BB, so the option is there

I found universal search to be pretty useless. Searched for shows that I know exist and it didn't find them and it only seems to show Hulu and iTunes. No biggie for me really as its not something I'll use as I use a Harmony remote but it is one of the big selling points so it should work.

Had to upgrade the Plex Server (manually, because Synology isn't always on top of things). But after that ordeal was done and the horrors of entering passwords without being able to use a keyboard or the Remote App, it actually looks really nice :)
