Hi guys,

I'm having typical issues with the Iphone home button playing up. Works when it feels like it. It was purchased online from Vodafone back in August 2010.

The receipt has been misplaced when we moved house....

Do I have any recourse under the CGA?

Do I approach Vodafone or Apple?

Should I just bite the bullet and pay for the repair myself?

Cheers.
Marcus.

On a somewhat more helpful note, apparently some people have had success with 'recalibrating' the home button - http://osxdaily.com/2011/12/22/iphone-home-button-not-working-or-unresponsive-fix/ (worth a try, if it's a hardware issue obviously it won't help).

The Consumer Guarantees Act is a useful bit of legistlation, but unforatunately is intentionally quite vague. Goods should be fit for purpose, and should work for a reasonable period of time (taking into consideration the cost of the time, whether it has been used/maintained appropriates).  It's difficult to know what the expected lifespan of an iPhone is, but I would have thought at least 24 months would be considered 'reasonable'.  You may encounter some resistance from Apple with regards to the CGA though - at the end of the day it may be easier to just get it fixed yourself.
