My MBA started showing a blinking folder with a ? mark icon. Google search suggest it is the SSD. Tried restore but it cannot find the SSD. Have reseated it and got the same issue. Anyone selling one for cheap?

Apple, in that arrogant, money-grasping way that works so well for them, have their own proprietary socket for the hard drives they use. So you can't just grab an aftermarket M.2 SSD - even though most would be quicker than than Apple's drives - it just won't fit.

It's rare for total M.2 failure to occur though - have you tried booting into recovery & using the diagnostic / repair tools there?

There is a boot rom update that some Macs need when switched to AFPS format with High Sierra.
An aasp should be able to update it for you and see if that gets it going again.
Otherwise we’ll have an ssd for sale if you want one.
What size would you want?

It was running fine on High Sierra for some time now before it crapped out. Dont want to spend too much on it so 128gb would be fine as I plan to sell it to get a new one.

Definitely have a 128gb ssd but as 1024kb already said, they are proprietary, so not cheap.
Let me know the serial number of the Mac so I can check compatibility.

@1024 yes have tried disk utility but when trying to restore it cannot find the drive. All it sees is a 1.8gb restore drive.

They have annoying proprietary connectors, not really familiar with them myself, you'd need to confirm if this could work.

From memory OWC made alternate replacement drives for these - they can be found cheap(ish) on eBay from time to time
