So, I haven't done any scientific testing, but I have noticed that since I've changed providers to 2Degrees, sometimes DNS lookups can take upwards of 10 seconds. I'm not sure what could be causing it, as it wasn't an issue using (almost) the same setup as before, so I'm wondering if anyone else is having any issues before I go and unblock Google's DNS for testing.

What DNS servers are you using? And are your lookups against 2degrees servers or your router?

Forcing all outbound DNS requests to the router, which is using the DHCP assigned IP addresses from 2Degrees. Like I said, it wasn't an issue with MyRepublic's DNS, so I'm just wondering if it's an issue of mine that requires further prodding (like clearing my DNSMasq settings or trying an alternative DNS) or if it's just something that's happening to everyone.

And are you using the same router from MyRepublic on 2degrees or a new one?

Yes, except it's an RT-AC68U, not the RT-N56U they supplied, all properly configured, with the Fritz!box sitting as a client behind it (also properly configured).

So is your PC doing a DNS lookup on the Fritz!Box, which in turn is doing on the RT-N56U, which in turn is doing another one on the ISP?

No, the Fritz!box is connected to the RT-AC68U as a client, with nothing connected to that, solely to act as a SIP-ATA.

Ok. Forget about the Fritz (no reason to mention it really). Is the  RT able to pass the DNS to the clients and the clients do the lookup directly to these instead of doing the lookup through the router? Alternatively have you tried manually entering the DNS on a client to test?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Good call, looks like it's passing the router's IP as the DNS server, I'll try changing it to pass on the actual IP addresses to clients.

Or manually change the clients. You need to identify if it's possibly the router adding the time...
